Meeker County Treasurer
Why are you running for this particular office?
I am running for Meeker County Treasurer for my fourth term.
I have worked in the county treasurer’s office for 22 years. During this time, I have held three different positions. I started as an account clerk, was in the position for four years, and then took the position of deputy treasurer for six years, before running for the seat of county treasurer.
I have currently been the county treasurer for 12 years. Working in these positions has given me the broad concepts of the office from working the counter to management.
I am running for re-election because I truly enjoy working in this office. After working here this many years, it becomes a part of you. I want to continue to serve the public in this capacity as their county treasurer.
What do you think are two major issues at this time, and what do you propose to do about them?
My office handles property taxes, motor vehicle licensing, driver’s licenses, vital statistics, passports, notaries, investments, all monies going through the county and hospital, and game and fish licensing. During my time in this office, I have seen many changes to the way we handle our duties. There have been different challenges throughout the years. The current challenges I am facing are the low interest rates and payment-type options.
In the current market, with interest rates at an all-time low and some banks not wanting funds, but needing to find appropriate avenues for investing the county monies, these monies need to be invested according to state statutes with safety, diversification, and liquidity in mind, while trying to earn the best rates possible.
The public wants multiple payment opportunities. This past year, I have implemented an ACH direct payment for property taxes. It seems to be well-received from the response I’ve seen so far. The next phase I’m looking into is acceptance of credit and debit cards.
Why should you be elected?
Because I take this position very seriously, and have 22 years experience as county treasurer. I will continue to serve the office and the public with utmost dignity and the highest degree of honor.
