Winsted Township Supervisor
Why are you running for Winsted Township Supervisor?
I am running again for township office since I enjoy being a part of grassroots government, and remaining engaged in the community, to help continue to keep it affordable and enjoyable for my family, my neighbors, and future generations.
What do you believe are the top two issues facing the township, and what are your proposed solutions?
The top two issues that face the township today are finding ways to adequately maintain our roads with the increased amounts of traffic that they continue to see, and being fiscally-responsible to our residents.
To accomplish this, the township has evaluated different road projects for improvements, and prioritizes those activities against the budget to only spend what we have, to avoid bonding.
We have also created a township-specific gravel specification that has helped us to reduce our overall gravel usage in time, and are also evaluating other ideas/concepts, like possibly adding dust control on new graveled roads, as ways to help keep our gravel on the roads and maintain/reduce our overall spending.
What specifically can this unit of government do to cut costs and operate efficiently, while still maintaining service to taxpayers?
Our goal at the township level has been to maintain the budget as constant as we can.
A significant shift in the past few years from residential homes to agricultural land values has shifted more of the tax burden to township residents, so it is ever more important that the township does not increase the levy, and continues to work within its budget, yet not get behind on road maintenance and graveling.
We have also applied for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grants in the past, which we have received, and will also continue to evaluate other funding options in the future to help maintain our budget.
