HLWW School District 2687 Board Minutes

HLWW High School Media Center

The School Board Work Session Meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 7:03 p.m. on November 8, 2004. After the Pledge of Allegiance, roll was taken with members present: Al Doering, John Lideen, Tom Hammer, Dan Schaible, Lori Custer; Charles Weber, and Charlie Borrell. Also present were Superintendent George Ladd, and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.

Chair Lideen opened the floor to approve the canvass of votes from the November 2, 2004 Operating Levy. Weber motioned to approve the failure of the November 2, 2004 Operating Levy; Schaible seconded; roll call vote in favor: Hammer, Schaible, Weber, Custer, Doering, and Lideen; Borrell abstained; none voted against; motion passes by majority vote.

Chair Lideen opened the floor to consider approving the agenda of the November 8, 2004, School Board Work Session Meeting. Hammer requested to have the Superintendent evaluation, web site update, and Wright Tech Center be added to the agenda. Lideen suggested waiting until the next meeting. Weber motioned to approve the agenda without any changes; Custer seconded; passed unanimously.

(Item 1) Lideen reminded the board that these were only preliminary numbers. Doering reviewed the preliminary numbers.

Several community members gave comments and suggestions to the board members.

(Item 2) Ladd gave a brief update regarding the Winsted Elementary portables.

(Item 3) Ladd reviewed the budget committee report, and said there were some adjustments for special education hiring.

(Item 4) Lideen said the next community meeting is November 16th at 7 p.m.

(Item 5) Borrell said the committee didn’t have anything new to report. Weber suggested waiting until the board decides what to do next.

(Item 6) Ladd asked for any items to be considered for the agenda for the November Regular School Board Meeting.

• Preliminary Audit

• Superintendent Evaluation report

• Web site update

• Wright Tech Center

Hammer said there was a discussion on Friday with community leaders of Winsted and Father Paul. They were very supportive of this operating levy.

(Item 7) Committee Reports

Buildings & Grounds, nothing new, and the committee needs to schedule a meeting.

Budget Committee will set a meeting Monday.

MEEP, met Monday.

DCAC, met tonight to discuss the impact of the operating levy not passing.

Labor Management, will meet on Wednesday.

MAWSECO, nothing to report.

Wright Tech, meeting tomorrow night.

Community Ed., has not met.

Wellness, nothing to report.

Laker Pride, Hammer gave a brief update.

Weber asked the negotiations committee to set a date to meet.

Lideen reviewed the following upcoming dates:

• Regular board meeting- November 15, 2004 7 p.m. High School Media Center

• Tentative Committee of the Whole -November 16, 2004 7 p.m. High School Media Center

• Labor management meeting-November 10, 2004 3:15 High School FACS room

• Truth in Taxation Hearing-December 6, 2004 High School Media Center, this is a meeting before the Regular School Board Meeting. Ladd asked if the budget committee would help decide what they wanted to present.

• MSBA Annual Conference - January 13-14, 2005 Mpls. Convention Center

Lideen also reported that the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the Drama Department will be holding another work day, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Hammer also indicated they are looking for storage containers.

Weber motioned to adjourn at 9:03 p.m.; Borrell seconded; passed unanimously.
