REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
Monday, October 10, 2011
High School Media Center
The October 10, 2011 Regular School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 6:00pm. by Chairman Schaible. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Schaible, Heuer, Wiech, and Tintes; absent: Weber; Kocher arrived at 6:05pm; Weibel arrived at 6:44. Also present were Principals Jennifer Olson and Mike Day; Superintendent Brad Sellner, SMS Financial Consultant Bill Menozzi, and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
(Item IV) Tintes motioned to approve the agenda; Heuer seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item V) There were no questions or comments from visitors.
(Item VI) Wiech motioned to approve the consent agenda which included the September 12, 2011 Regular Board Meeting minutes, September 26, 2011 Work Session Meeting minutes, October bills, enrollment, the retirement of High School Principal, Mike Day effective June 28, 2012; the following lane changes: Andy Gagnon, from BA45 to MA; Jeff Goudy from BA to BA15; Heidi Joy-Bursch from BA15 to BA30; Michelle Olson from BA to BA15; and Brooke Thrall from BA15 to BA30, the following employment recommendations: Stephanie Boeson for a 4hr. per week van driver position; and Adam Koeppe and Kathy Leukuma as the Laker Pride Coordinators, and the Winter Coaching assignments as listed, the second reading on the following policies: 410 Family and Medical Leave Policy; 413 Harassment and Violence; 414 Mandated Reporting of Child Neglect or Physical or Sexual Abuse; 415 Mandated Reporting of Maltreatment of Vulnerable Adults; 506 Student Discipline; 514 Bullying Prohibition; 522 Student Sex Nondiscrimination; 524 Internet Acceptable Use and Safety Policy; 616 School District System Accountability, and 806 Crisis Management, Communications which included the Elementary Laker News, Resource Training & Solutions Communicator, and Community Concert flyer; and the following recognitions:
The School Board recognizes the following support staff honored recently at the 1st annual Educational Support Staff recognition event: Jerome Decker, Jan Fitzpatrick, Stacy Horsch and Dick Sonstegard. This event sponsored by Resource Training and Solutions, honors educational support staff who are an integral part of our school district. We congratulate you on this accomplishment, and thank you for your commitment to students of this district.
The School Board recognizes the following recently crowned homecoming royalty: King–Jackson Houston; Queen–Heather Lehner; Prince–Jake Anderson; Princess–Samantha Stender. Congratulations to all of you.
The School Board recognizes the high school student council and advisor, Amber Hlavka, for a wonderful job on homecoming 2011. The students, staff, and community enjoyed the homecoming events. Thank you for a job well done.
The School Board recognizes Addie Mucha for donated prizes for the middle school homecoming contests. The students competed in dressing up differently each day during homecoming week and a memorabilia contest. Thank you for your donation, and your continued support to the students in the district.

(Item VII, Subd. A) Wiech motioned to approve the October treasurers report; Tintes seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. B) Heuer motioned to approve the property and liability insurance with Continental Western; Wiech seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. C) Heuer motioned to approve the teacher contract for 2011-13 school years; Wiech seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. D) Heuer motioned to approve the purchase of a van from A.M. Maus & Son; Wiech seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. E) Tintes motioned to approve two, seven hour Para positions, one at the elementary and one at the m idle school; Wiech seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. F) Wiech motioned to approve the Resolution Appointing Election Judges for the November 8th Special Election; Heuer seconded; those in favor: Tintes, Wiech, Heuer, Kocher, and Schaible; opposed: none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. G) Wiech motioned to adopt the Resolution Establishing a ballot board for the November 8th special election; Heuer seconded; those in favor: Kocher, Tintes, Wiech, Heuer, and Schaible; opposed: none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. H) Wiech motioned to approve the posting of the seniority list; Tintes seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. I) Tintes motioned to approve the annual Assurance of Compliance report; Wiech seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. J) Wiech motioned to adopt the Resolution for the District Application to MSHSL; Tintes seconded; those in favor: Tintes, Wiech, Heuer, Kocher and Schaible; opposed: none; passed unanimously.
(Item VII, Subd. K) The Policy Committee recommends the first reading on the following policies: 101-Legal Status of the School District, 101.1-Name of the School District, 103-Complaints-Students, Employees, parents, Other Persons, 104-School District Mission Statement, 207-Public Hearings, 212-School Board Member Development, and 306-Administrator Code of Ethics.
(Item VII, Subd. L) AYP planning tabled until Principal and Curriculum Director Schimelpfenig arrives.
(Item VIII, Subd. A) Principal Olson gave a brief report.
Principal Day gave a brief report.
(Item VIII, Subd. B) Each board member gave a brief committee report.
(Item VIII, Subd. C) Superintendent Sellner gave a brief report.
