The July 29, 2013 Special School Board meeting of the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 6:05 p.m. by Chairman Schaible. After the pledge of allegiance, roll was taken with the following members present: Schaible, Kocher, Smith, Tintes, Wiech, and Heuer; Weibel was absent. Also present were Superintendent Brad Sellner, and Board Secretary Marilyn Greeley.
(Item IV) Superintendent Sellner asked for an addition to the agenda, Item VI-B-Chrome Book Insurance to be presented by High School Principal Jason Mix. Wiech motioned to approve the agenda with the addition; Heuer seconded; passed unanimously.
(Item V) There were no questions or comments from visitors.
(Item VI, Subd. A) Superintendent Sellner gave some scenarios of possible referendum questions. The board discussed several options; each board member gave their ideas about how many questions, the dollar amount, for how long, and the wording of the ballot.
Heuer motioned to authorize the district to submit the review and comment with the assistance of SGN/Wendell Architects and Ehlers & Associates for the amount of $27,945,000 with a 23 year term, and to be conducted on November 5, 2013; Wiech seconded; passed unanimously.
Superintendent Sellner gave some suggestions the board can use to help notify the communities about the upcoming election. Sellner also referenced the information the district sent to the public for the 2003 building referendum has been similar to what we are experiencing today. Jim Wilson, SGN Architect, also said that many districts that had buildings referendums 10 years ago have already gone through another building project cycle.
(Item VI, Subd. B) Jason Mix, High School Principal, reviewed the information about the cost for insurance for the Chrome Books. The board discussed several options; the consensus of the board was to have parents pay for the $30 insurance, or carry insurance of their own for the Chrome Book their student would be receiving.
Wiech motioned to adjourn at 8:05 p.m; Heuer seconded; passed unanimously
Michelle Heuer, Clerk
