The February 7, 2000 Special School Board meeting of Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted ISD #2687 was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Board Chair Gene Lorentz. After the Pledge of Allegiance, the roll was taken with all members present: Jim Fowler, Randy Heuer, Richard Lammers, Eugene Lorentz, James Raymond, Michael Steckelberg, Charles Weber, Leo Weber, Ken Zimmerman. Also present were Superintendent Riley Hoheisel; members of the Long Range Facilities Site Task Force committee Joe Campbell, Deb Gatz, and Catherine Jackson; Linda Schroeder of Schroeder Communications; and architect Bob Abendroth.
Raymond moved to approve the agenda of the February 7 Special School Board Meeting; C. Weber seconded; passed unanimously.
Board Chair Lorentz turned the floor over to Site Task Force Co Chair Joe Campbell, who presented the Task Force site recommendation for a new Grades 9-12 High School for the HLWW District. He distributed a prepared report that included selection criteria, the recommended site information, the committee's efforts to maintain focus on the District as a whole, and decision-making criteria. Joe highlighted the major points of the recommendation and invited questions from the Board and others in attendance.
After questions and discussion, Bob Abendroth of Abendroth, Rego and Youngquist Architects, Inc. presented information regarding analysis of the proposed site. He pointed out that the recommended "country" site would cost about $700,000 more than a city location to access utilities.
Discussion continued, including possible steps required to move this process forward, and the need to contact the Victor Township Board regarding rezoning. The School Board will take further action on this recommendation at the Regular February 22, 2000 School Board Meeting.
C. Weber made a motion to adjourn the meeting; Steckelberg seconded; passed unanimously and adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
