BOARD OF EDUCATION
SCHOOL DISTRICT #424,
LESTER PRAIRIE, MINNESOTA
Monday, March 27, 2006
A regular meeting of the Board of Education of District #424, Lester Prairie, McLeod County, MN was held on March 27, 2006 in the school media center. Board members present were Fred Blaser, Chester Hoernemann, Melissa Williams, Jeff Hecksel, Robert Carlson, and Jim Jorgenson. Administration present included Joe Miller, Pam Lukens, and Ron Erpenbach. Guests present were Kim DeBruychere, Jodie Ziermann, Emily Tonn, and Linda Scherer.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Fred Blaser.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Hoernemann.
A motion was given by Hoernemann to approve the agenda for this meeting as modified, approve minutes for the regular meeting of February 21, 2006, and to pay bills in the amount of $86,179.62. This was second by Jorgensen and passed by a vote of 6-0.
Mr. Miller spoke of the trip to the Capitol. Summary of the legislation information is as follows: possibility of one time grant to help with Special Ed, possibly a one time grant for heating costs based per pupil unit, trying to raise money to equalize levies, possibly money for all day kindergarten, and they might be looking at law suits because of under funding schools. Our Lester Prairie bill passed the senate sub committee, but we won’t know the final result until the end of the session.
The Junior High play was very entertaining.
No one chose to speak during open dialogue.
Lukens gave her report for K 12. The report is on file at the district office.
Erpenbach gave his report as Secondary Principal/ Activities Director. This report is on file at the district office.
Carlson motioned to pass three (3) non-resident agreements for students attending school out of the district. Chester seconds the motion, and it passed unanimously.
A motion was made by Carlson to approve contracts. It was second by Hoernemann and passed unanimously.
Carlson made a motion to hire Bob Henning as a long- term sub and to do the spring play. Hoernemann second it, and the vote was 6-0.
A PowerPoint presentation was given on the finances by Miller. This is available at the district office.
A motion was made by Williams to hold a special meeting on Tuesday April 4, 6:30 p.m. to discuss reductions. A second was given by Hecksel and approved 6-0.
Miller gave an update on the utility costs for 2005-2006.
Hoernemann spoke about the Special Ed happenings; negotiations were done, however, grievances were filed.
A reminder was given regarding the underage drinking meeting at the Lester Prairie City Hall at 7 p.m. on March 28 and also for the Bulldog Bash on March 31.
The meeting was adjourned by Blaser at 8:30 p.m.
