THE BOARD OF EDUCATION
SCHOOL DISRICT 424,
LESTER PRAIRIE, MINNESOTA
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2006
A special meeting of the Board of Education of District 424, Lester Prairie, McLeod County, Minnesota, was held on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 in the school media center.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Fred Blaser at 6:30 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Fred Blaser.
Roll call was taken and Board members present included: Fred Blaser, Robert Carlson, Jim Jorgenson, Jeff Hecksel. Melissa Williams came at 6:45pm and Robert Carlson left at 7:05 PM. Chester Hoernemann was absent.
Administration present was Mr. Miller.
There were also some guests from the public present: Patricia and David Thiede, Jim Pennington, Julie Dammann, Pat Miller, Sue Rolf, and Fran Romuald.
A motion was made by Jim Jorgenson to approve the agenda with a change of the meeting start time from 7:00 to 6:30 p.m. (The agenda was in error). The motion was seconded by Robert Carlson. The motion passed with a 5-0 vote.
There was general discussion about the levy and a few questions were asked to explain why taxes went up higher than anticipated. Mr. Miller gave an explanation of what the school will spend the levy money on and how levy is determined. He also explained that if we don’t get money from the state government then it has to come locally. General consensus of the group was to talk with legislators and express concerns over rising property tax and to suggest property tax relief.
The board will formally adopt the levy on Monday, December 18, 2006.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:15 PM.
