A regular meeting of the Board of Education of District #424, Lester Prairie, McLeod County, MN was held on December 16, 2002 in the school media center. The meeting was called to order by chairperson Fred Blaser at 6:30 p.m. Members present were vice chairperson Chester Hoernemann, treasurer Barry Kyllo, clerk Nancy Krull and directors Bob Carlson and Bob Remer. Staff members present were Dr. James Redfield, Joe Miller, Dean of Students, Pam Lukens, Elementary Principal. Julie Yurek, Winsted-LP Journal/Ad News was present. One citizen arrived for the Truth in Taxation hearing at 8:00 p.m.
Vice chairman Hoernemann led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion made by Kyllo seconded by Krull to approve the consent agenda as modified and bills in the amount of $134,081.11. Motion carried.
A thank you note from the staff for an appreciation lunch was read by Dr. Redfield.
In the Good News section many positive comments were made about both the elementary and Jr./Sr. High winter concerts. The board has also been awarded the MSBA Distinguished Leadership Award.
Krull moved and Kyllo seconded a motion to set the reorganization meeting for January 3, 2003 at 5:00 p.m. Motion carried.
Hoernemann moved and Remer seconded a motion to release a senior student to Hutchinson. Motion carried.
The Board was reminded that superintendent evaluations are due to Nancy Krull ASAP.
Board reports followed with no action required.
Administrative reports were provided in written form and briefly reviewed at the meeting.
The Truth in Taxation hearing began at 8:10. Dr. Redfield reviewed the information on levies from the Department of Children Families and Learning. A few questions were raised by board members. The taxation review was concluded shortly after 8:30.
Dr. Redfield asked the Board if the school should advertise about the open enrollment deadline approaching. Board consensus was yes.
The meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
