In partnership with our communities, Dassel-Cokato Public Schools will provide all learners opportunities designed to maximize their potential and promote lifelong learning.
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District No. 466 (Dassel-Cokato, Minnesota) was duly held in the Dassel-Cokato Board Room, Cokato, Minnesota, on Thursday, April 22, 2010.
Board Chairman Kevin Dahlman called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.
The following members were present: Dahlman, Tormanen, Bender, Linder, McConkey and Bjork. The following were absent: none. Members of the administration and public were also present.
The meeting began with the pledge of allegiance.
Motion by Bender, seconded by Tormanen, accepting the agenda as printed. Motion carried unanimously.
The Russell A. Johnson Courtesy and Respect Award was presented to Shane McConkey for March.
Motion by Linder, seconded by Bjork, approving payment of bills as presented including payroll, hand payables and contingency totaling $1,846,217.21. Motion carried unanimously. (A complete list of bills is available from the District Office for review.)
Communications/Open Forum: None
Motion by Linder, seconded by Bjork approving K-12 Science Scope and Sequence, Curriculum Maps and Materials. Curriculum Director Force led a presentation by teachers K-12. Motion carried unanimously.
Curriculum Advisory Committee (CAC) Report: Board Member Linder reported on the 4-8-10 meeting which included a recommendation to forward K-12 Science Scope and Sequence, Curriculum Maps and Materials to the board for approval. There was also a presentation by K-12 Special Education teachers regarding their work this year and proposed materials for purchase.
Technology Report: Vice Chair Tormanen reported on the 4-15-10 District Technology Meeting which included: review of 09-10, plans for 10-11, Infinite Campus, Office 2010, Data Warehouse
MAWSECO Report: Chairman Dahlman reported that MAWSECO will meet on 4-27-10
Community Education Report: None
Business Manager’s Report: Business Manager Palmer reported expenditures are in line with budget through the end of the tenth month of the fiscal year. Business Manager Palmer also updated the board on the line of credit the district accessed due to the payment delay from the state.
Superintendent’s Report: Superintendent Powers reported on a meeting between Wright County Superintendents and City Administrators
Student Representative’s Report: Student Representative Duncan reported on: MCA testing, senior seminars, hiring teachers, FLY, Surveying of students regarding yearly events, and spring activities.
Other Reports: Board Member Bender reported on the ditch project, SEE General Membership Meeting, and Phase IV training.
Motion by Tormanen, seconded by Linder approving all consent items, which included approval of the minutes from the March 25, 2010 Regular Board Meeting, April 5, 2010 Special Board Meeting and the April 12, 2010 Special Board Meeting. Wire transfers made on March 31st for $565,000, April 9th for $161,000 and April 15th for $500,000. Personnel Items: Resignation of Amanda Krings as a .5 FTE Cokato Elementary teacher effective 6/7/2010, Resignation of Corinne McGraw as a Middle School Communications teacher at the end of the 2009-2010 school year, Resignation/Retirement of Shari Barberg as a Special Education teacher at the end of the 2009-2010 school year, Resignation/ Retirement of Susan Pospichal as a Middle School Math teacher at the end of the 2009-2010 school year, Resignation/Retirement of Sharon Wahala as a Middle School Communications teacher at the end of the 2009-2010 school year, Resignation/ Retirement of Heidi Kepley as the High School Social Worker effective 12/22/2010, Resignation of Ryan Luhrs as HS Vocal Music and MS General Music teacher at the end of the 2009-2010 school year, Resignation of Beth Flick as the head volleyball coach for the 2010-11 school year, Resignation of Stacy Sorgatz for .20 FTE of Physical Education Position at Cokato Elementary, Request Approval of 12 weeks FMLA leave for Jennifer Bertram approx. beginning 6/1/10-6/7/10 and continuing into the fall 8/30/10 –11/12/10, Request Approval of 12 weeks FMLA leave for Sonia Whittaker beginning 8/30/2010-11/22/2010 and unpaid child care leave for the rest of the 2010-11 school year, Resignation of Marlyce Bjork as a Special Needs Transportation Driver effective 6/4/2010, Resignation of Rob Nudell as principal at Dassel Elementary effective June 30, 2010, Assignment of Bryan Clemen as 2nd Junior High golf coach position. Approve Resolution for Membership in the Minnesota State High School League 2010-2011. Motion carried unanimously.
Member Bjork introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE TERMINATION AND NONRENEWAL OF THE TEACHING CONTRACT
OF David Pennertz, A PROBATIONARY TEACHER.
WHEREAS, David Pennertz is a probationary teacher in Independent School District No.466.
BE IT RESOLVED, by the School Board of Independent School District No. 466, that pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 122A.40, Subdivision 5, that the teaching contract of David Pennertz, a probationary teacher in Independent School District No.466, is hereby terminated at the close of the current 2009 - 2010 school year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that written notice be sent to said teacher regarding termination and non-renewal of her contract as provided by law, and that said notice shall be in substantially the following form:

Mr. Pennertz
Dear Mr. Pennertz:
You are hereby notified that at a regular meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No. 466 held on April 22, 2010, a resolution was adopted by a majority roll call vote to terminate your contract effective at the end of the current school year and not to renew your contract for the 2010 - 2011 school year. Said action of the board is taken pursuant to M.S. 122A.40, Subd. 5.
You may officially request that the school board give its reasons for the non-renewal of your teaching contract. For your information, however, this action is taken because of the financial condition of the school district.

BE IT RESOLVED, by the School Board of Independent School District No. 466, that pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 122A.40, Subdivision 5, that the teaching contract of Christine Lawyer, a probationary public school nurse in Independent School District No.466, is hereby terminated at the close of the current 2009 - 2010 school year.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by McConkey and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Bender, Tormanen, Dahlman, McConkey, Linder, Bjork and the following voted against the same: None, whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
Motion by Bjork, seconded by Linder authorizing the business manager to sell the vocational house. Motion carried unanimously.
Agenda items for the 5-10-10 board meeting will include presentations by students from Dassel Elementary and the high school.
Being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:55 PM.

The Township Board reserves the right to waive any informality in any bid and reject any and all bids.
Bids must be accompanied by a Certified Check or Corporate Surety Bond made payable to the Treasurer of Collinwood Township in the amount of at least 5% of the bid. A performance bond will also be required before work begins.
