UNOFFICIAL SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES I.S.D. #466, BOARD OF EDUCATION 7:00 PM REGULAR BOARD MEETING, SEPTEMBER 30, 2010 DASSEL-COKATO BOARD ROOM
In partnership with our communities, Dassel-Cokato Public Schools will provide all learners opportunities designed to maximize their potential and promote lifelong learning.
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District No. 466 (Dassel-Cokato, Minnesota) was duly held in the Dassel-Cokato Board Room, Cokato, Minnesota, on Thursday, September 30, 2010.
Board Chairman Kevin Dahlman called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.
The following members were present: Dahlman, Tormanen, Bender, McConkey and Bjork. The following were absent: Linder. Members of the administration and public were also present.
The meeting began with the pledge of allegiance.
Motion by Bender, seconded by Tormanen, accepting the agenda as printed. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Bjork, seconded by McConkey, approving payment of bills as presented including payroll, hand payables and contingency totaling $1,466,140.60. Motion carried unanimously. (A complete list of bills is available from the District Office for review.)
Communications/Open Forum: None
Curriculum Advisory Committee (CAC) Report: Board Member Bjork reported on the 9-16 meeting, which included reorganization on math curriculum.
Technology Report: None
MAWSECO Report: Chairman Dahlman reported on the 9-28 meeting, which included: personnel, start of the year, audit, and an update on moving the offices
Community Education Report: Vice Chair Tormanen reported on the 9-2-10 meeting which included; Charger Kids Club, summer theatre, ECFE, Craft Fair, and budget
Business Manager’s Report: Business Manager Palmer reported on the general fund revenues, expenditures and fund balance through the end of fiscal year 2010. Business Manager Palmer also informed the board that premiums for health insurance will be increasing by 9.3% effective October 1, 2010 and the district will be offering a high deductible HSA to employees as a fourth plan option. Business Manager Palmer also informed the board on the Education Jobs Funds the district will be receiving in one-time aid from the federal government. The district will be receiving $467,377 which can be used through September 30, 2012.
Superintendent’s Report: Superintendent Powers reported on the ditch and roof projects.
Student Representative Benda reported on: high school student advisory, student spirit, hockey rink, homecoming week.
Board Clerk Bjork reported that the DCRISC is finalizing project plans, dirt work has started, and the ground breaking will take place on 10-2 at 12:00.
Board Member Bender reported on the September SEE General Membership meeting.
Motion by Tormanen, seconded by Bender approving all consent items, which included approval of the minutes from the August 26, 2010 Regular Board Meeting and the September 15, 2010 Special Board Meeting. Wire transfers made on August 27th for $575,000, September 15th for $590,000 and September 24th for $400,000. Personnel Items: Resignation of Todd Heinonen as 7th grade girls’ basketball coach, Assignment of Vinne Pokornowski as an additional JH Football coach, Assignment of Karina Johnson as a volunteer coach for the girls swim team, Employment of Wendy Korhonen as a Special Needs Para at Dassel Elementary, Approval of lane change for Brian Bessingpas from MA to MA+15 and Acceptance of Donations From the Stanley Dahlman family - $500 donated to the foster grandparent program at Cokato Elementary, the Sew Friendly Quilt Guild - $50 donated to Cokato Elementary to purchase school supplies for needy children, Brian and Rachel Franklin – a trumpet donated to the band department. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by McConkey, seconded by Bjork appointing Julie Borg the CAC beginning in September 2010. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Bjork, seconded by McConkey approving changes to the following policies: 602 School Calendar, 604 Instructional Curriculum, 608 Instructional Services – Special Education. 614 Testing Plan and Procedure, 615 Testing Accommodations, Modifications, and Exemptions, 616 System Accountability, 618 Assessment of Student Achievement, 620 Credit for Learning, 701 School District Budget, 704 Inventory of Assets, 707 Transportation of Public School Students, 709 Student Transportation Safety, 711 Video Recording on Busses, 805 Waste Reduction and Recycling. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Tormanen, seconded by Bender approving the 2009-10 Annual Report on Curriculum, Instruction, and Student Achievement (formerly known as Systems Accountability Report). Motion carried unanimously
Motion by Bjork, seconded by Tormanen certifying the 2010 payable 2011 levy at the maximum amount. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Bender, seconded by McConkey approving an out of state trip by the FFA to the FFA National Convention. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Tormanen, seconded by McConkey approving an out of state trip by the National Honor Society to Washington DC. Motion carried unanimously.
The board had a first reading of policies 613 Graduation Requirements and 705 Investments.
Motion by Bjork, Seconded by Bender approving a 5 Year Student Teacher Agreement with St. Cloud State University. Motion Carried Unanimously.
The board briefly discussed the Oct. 11 Special Board Meeting and had no agenda items for said meeting. Unless agenda items are brought forward the meeting will be cancelled.
Being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:06 PM.
