NOTICE
Dec. 1 meeting set to discuss watercraft restrictions on Pelican Lake
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will hold an open house on a proposal to restrict motorized boat traffic on part of Wright County’s Pelican Lake for two months in the spring to better protect migrating waterfowl.
The open house will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 1 in the council chambers at the St. Michael City Hall, 11800 Town Center Drive NE. The public also can send comments to DNR Wildlife, 940 Industrial Drive S., #103, Sauk Rapids, MN 56379; or by email to fred.bengtson@state.mn.us. Comments must be received by 5 p.m. Dec. 15.
From March 15 to May 15, 2012, motorized watercraft would be prohibited from operating on the lake in sections 5, 6, 7, 8, 17 and 18 in the city of St. Michael, and sections 11, 12 and 13 of Buffalo Township. Those areas represent roughly the southern third of the lake. Motorized watercraft still would be able to operate in the restricted zone within 100 feet of the shoreline at slow no-wake speeds, thereby allowing riparian landowners and local anglers access to the lake.
Pelican Lake is one of only 45 designated wildlife lakes in the state. The designation means that the lake’s management plans emphasize its value to wildlife, and it gives DNR statutory authority to regulate watercraft use and to periodically lower water levels in order to improve habitat.

NOTICE OF INTENT TO ADOPT PUBLIC HEALTH NUISANCE ORDINANCE
AND TO REPEAL ORDINANCE 05-03, THE CLEANUP OF CLANDESTINE
DRUG LAB SITES ORDINANCE
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the Wright County Board of Commissioners, druing its regular meeting on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at 9:30 A.M., will consider adoption of a Public Health Nuisance Ordinance, as well as the repeal of Ordinance 05-03, the Clean-up Of Clandestine Drug Lab Sites Ordinance. This consideration and discussion will take place in the Commissioners’ Board Room at the Wright County Government Center, Buffalo, Minnesota.
The Public Health Nuisance Ordinance is designed to protect the health, safety, and general welfare of the citizens of Wright County and would put County personnel in a better position to deal with public health nuisances. Wright County Public Health, a division of Wright County Human Services Agency, is the local public health authority for all of Wright County. The County has been using the powers granted it under Minnesota Statutes Chapter 145A, the Local Public Health Act, but the proposed ordinance is designed to more clearly define the enforcement and abatement powers that the County can exercise.
The County Board will also consider the repeal of the Wright County Clean-up Of Clandestine Drug Lab Sites Ordinance, first adopted in 2005. The proposed comprehensive Public Health Nuisance Ordinance contains provisions which would make the 2005 “Meth Lab” ordinance obsolete.
