NOTICE OF ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
April 2nd, 2012
TO: INTERESTED PARTIES, GROUPS and INDIVIDUALS
RE: REQUEST FOR ENVIRONMENTAL COMMENT
The City of Darwin is applying to the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (PFA) for financial assistance to be used for making improvements to the City’s public water supply system. Funds are being requested pursuant to the Drinking Water Revolving Fund as administered by the PFA and the Minnesota Department of Health. The City is preparing to undertake the following activities:
Construction of a Water Treatment Plant: The city will construct a new water treatment plant consisting of aeration, gravity filters, detention tank, and backwash holding tanks. The existing treatment plant has exceeded its useful life and the pressure filters are in very poor condition. In addition, the existing treatment plant system does not treat the raw water for arsenic. The new facility will treat the raw water for arsenic.
Funding approval is anticipated. Release of these funds requires the preparation of an environmental review and compliance with the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), as amended, and certain other laws and regulations. The City is in the process of completing the environmental review and is soliciting comments as they relate to this project.
Written comments to consider environmental impacts will be accepted through May 3rd, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. Submit them to:
