WRIGHT COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
NOTICE OF INTENT TO ADOPT
THE WRIGHT COUNTY SOCIAL HOST ORDINANCE
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the Wright County Board of Commissioners, during its regular meeting on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at 9:30 A.M., will hold a public hearing to consider adopting the Wright County Social Host Ordinance. This consideration and discussion will take place in the Commissioners’ Board Room at the Wright County Government Center, Buffalo, Minnesota.
The Wright County Board of Commissioners will be reviewing and discussing the proposed adoption of a Social Host Ordinance. This new proposed ordinance makes it illegal to host or allow a gathering of three or more people on private or public property where the host knows or reasonably should know that minors will consume alcohol and the host does not take reasonable steps to stop it. The ordinance makes it unlawful to provide an environment where underage drinking takes place, without regard to who supplied the alcohol to the minors. Also, a “knowing” host does not have to be present to be criminally responsible. Violation of the ordinance is a misdemeanor where the maximum penalty could be 90 days in jail and /or a $1000 fine. This ordinance shall be applicable in all incorporated and unincorporated municipalities/townships within Wright County.
