Independent School District 879, Delano Public Schools
The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Independent School District 879, Delano, Minnesota, was held on Monday, April 28, 2014, at Delano City Hall. The meeting was called to order by the chair at 5:44 p.m. with the following members in attendance: Johnson, Milano, Durick, Larson, Baker, and Seguin. Black was absent.
APPROVAL OF MEETING AGENDA (approved unanimously)
Board reviewed discussion items: Teacher Evaluation Tool, DHS Handbook updates/changes, MOA Last Day of School change, space repurposing at DES, selection of new school board student representative, wireless system updates/changes, Board of Education Dollars for Scholars scholarship.
Special Services and ADSIS Grant by Keely Swartzer, Corey Lahr and Ginger Diehart.
CONSENT AGENDA (approved unanimously)
Board approved the regular meeting minutes of 3-17-14, the current budget status with year-to-date adjustments, investment transactions, wire transfers, Minnesota Liquid Assets fund, cash report, revenue and expense fund totals, expense reports and disbursements.
RESOLUTION OF ACCEPTANCE OF GIFTS (approved unanimously
PERSONNEL (approved unanimously):
Board approved retirements/resignations/terminations, recommendations of employment and contract changes which include: retirements of DMS 6th Grade Teacher, CE Custodian and DHS Paraprofessional; Resignations include: DHS Mathematics Teacher, DHS Vocal Music Teacher, CE Tiger Kids Club Aide, CE Tiger Activity Center Adult Shift Morning Supervisor; Recommendation of employment include: CE Gymnastics Coach, (2) CE Tiger Kids Club Teacher/Substitute, CE Tiger Activity Aquatics Lifeguard, DHS Jr. Varsity Boys Tennis Coach, DMS 7th Grade Softball Coach, and Extended year ECSE Paraprofessional; Contract changes/approvals include: DES Special Education Teacher from .75 FTE to 1.0 FTE, CE Tiger Activity Center change from TAC Supervisor to TAC Program Supervisor, DMS/DHS Food Service Worker hour change from 3.0 to 3.5 per day; Leaves of absence include: DMS Special Education Teacher, (2) DES 2nd Grade Teacher.
ADMINISTRATIVE AND BOARD REPORTS
Board heard the following administrative reports: Superintendent Schoen reported on 2014 Legislative Session and Tiger Drive street repairs. Ms. Klinkner reported on MCA testing, 2014-15 hiring, 4th grade student visit and 4th grade parent meeting, facility use and room repurposing, and roof leaks. Dr. Heil reported on 2nd Act Restoration Project Phase I and Phase II, NHS Induction Ceremony, SciTech, Mock Car Crash, Prom, Senior Awards Night, HS registration and scheduling, and interviews and hiring for the 2014-15 school year. Mr. Schuler reported on the DES Science Fair, MCA testing, interviewing and hiring process for the 2014-15 school year, DES severe weather plan, and WEM award recipient. M. Reeder reported on 2014 Finance Award, classroom purchasing and 2014-15 budget. D. Johnson reported on CE summer brochure, Concerts in the Park, RISE, Twinkle, Twinkle Dance, preschool registration, TKC summer and fall registration, City of Delano takeover of CE programs, Destination ImagiNation, YAR, SHARP and new facilities software. Alex Grant reported on DHS choir, NHS Induction Ceremony and Prom. Board heard reports from MAWSECO, Wright Technical Center, Curriculum Advisory Council, Schools for Equity in Education, Delano Area Sports Arena, and Professional Development.
NEW BUSINESS (approved unanimously)
Approved Trail Construction and Maintenance Agreement, First and only read of policies due to non-substantive and/or legal reference changes: Policy 208-Development, Adoption, and Implementation of Policies and Policy 522-Student Sex Nondiscrimination, MOA regarding last day of school.
