DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
Dassel-Cokato Public Schools is proposing classroom additions at both elementary schools to accommodate all-day-every-day kindergarten and anticipated enrollment growth. The total project cost, including financing costs, is $2,371,894.
A two classroom addition is planned for the Dassel Elementary School and four classrooms for the Cokato Elementary. The estimated project cost of $720,691 for the Dassel Elementary addition will be funded by existing general fund dollars. For the Cokato Elementary addition, the district intends to fund $436,203 of the project with existing general fund dollars and the remaining $1,215,000 with a 10-year lease-purchase agreement. Since the term of the lease-purchase is less than 15 years, the lease purchase payments do not qualify for levy authority under Minn. Stat. § 126C.40, Subd. 1.
School board approval is required to proceed with the projects. The school board believes that the proposed projects are in the best interest of the district.
REVIEW AND COMMENT STATEMENT
Based upon the department’s analysis of the school district’s required documentation and other pertinent information from sources of the Minnesota Department of Education, the Commissioner of Education provides a positive review and comment.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE
Persons desiring additional information regarding this proposal should contact the school district superintendent’s office.
