How to choose the best gutter protection

Paid Advertisement

You may think the gutters on your house are just a nice contrasting trim along the edge of the roof.

They do more than make it look nice, however.

Gutters and downspouts are vital to keeping your house intact. They protect your roof, your siding, and the foundation.

Gutters are a little like teeth. If you neglect them, they will allow infection into the body of the house. Protecting them costs far less than replacing them, or repairing the damage caused by neglect.

Clogged gutters can contribute to a myriad of problems, including damage to shingles, rotten rafters, wet ceilings, damaged siding, mildewed walls, damage to patios, porches, and driveways, and cracked foundations.

Clogged gutters must be cleaned out. But, don’t worry, you have options.

Option 1

Do nothing. Let nature take its course.

Option 2

Clean your clogged gutters. Get out a ladder that reaches to the roof, don a pair of work gloves, and clean the leaves, twigs, and who-knows-what-else out of the gutter so that the standing water can drain off. In a few months, do it again. And again.

Option 3

Install a gutter protection system like Gutter Helmet.

• No more climbing on a ladder.

• No more dealing with disgusting muck over and over.

• No more liability and expense of someone else cleaning your gutters.

• Instead, you enjoy the benefits of free-flowing gutters and downspouts.

• Peace of mind. No more worries.

Choose the best

• Research the product. Does it have a proven track record? Gutter protection is a very hot item right now, and fly-by-night operators are out there.

• A quality system should be professionally installed.

• Make sure you get a full-sized, 5-inch or larger seamless gutter.

• Find better protection made of heavy gauge aluminum with a UV-resistant finish. It should carry a manufacturer’s lifetime warranty on the material and the finish.

• Choose a product that can withstand the heaviest of rainfalls. What type of mechanism does the product use to assure the water goes into the gutter?

• Pick a system that can support the weight of snow or ice. The support brackets should be sturdy.

• Avoid gutters with vertical openings or slots on the top or near the front, and/or has negative pitch. While these may keep out leaves and sticks, they will let little stuff into the gutter which will eventually clog it.

• Get a manufacturer’s lifetime written warranty; ideally, one that is transferable. It will increase the value of your investment.

A home is the most valuable thing most of us own. Protect your investment with Gutter Helmet.
