Marcia Engel and Holly Cottington of Mortgages on Main, or M.O.M., believe in treating their customers as if they’ve known them for years.
Engel began working at M.O.M. in Sauk Centre, where it began. She then moved to Litchfield, where she opened her own branch in 1996. Cottington joined Engel in 2004.
M.O.M.’s mission is to understand that each individual customer is unique and has individual goals.
“We will work with customers who have had credit hiccups,” she said.
“We should be able to do something for them,” she added.
To do this, instead of working with just one lender, M.O.M. has more than a dozen they work closely with, including Bank of America and Chase Manhattan.
“There are no cookie cutter loans,” Engel said.
There are no up-front fees to lock a person in, they use the trustworthy handshake, Engel said. She even encourages her customers to shop around.
“I don’t want to spend their money,” she said. “I want to save them money in the long run.”
M.O.M. works with many different lenders, which allows them to be able to find the right loan program, she explained.
M.O.M. specializes in refinancing, debt consolidation, home improvement, purchase, low down payments, new construction, second mortgages, home equity lines of credit, less than perfect credit, and speedy approvals.
The goal for mortgage loan consultants at M.O.M. is to take the guesswork out of buying a home and to make their client feel comfortable with their financial options.
It is currently a buyer’s market, though the market is very unpredictable, which makes business more difficult, Engel explained.
Loans are going for 6 to 7 percent, depending on the program, she said.
“You can still get a great rate and more house that you could a couple of years ago,” Engel said.
Working with a small-town lender like M.O.M. allows for a client to be treated like a person instead of a number.
Engel enjoys working in a small town. By growing up in a small town and working in one, she enjoys the fact that it’s more personalized.
“I want to recognize my clients when I go to the grocery store,” she said.
