Vermont Homes specializes in custom built homes

By Kristen Miller, Staff Writer

Vern Thiemann of Vermont Homes is a home designer and builder who believes in building a home his customers wants and needs.

Vermont Homes works with the home owner for the design stage and uses 42 subcontractors and nine in-house employees to build their home from start to finish.

A customer can choose from more than 25 home designs, all the while adding from the companies “special features” list.

Wife and Realtor, Connie Thiemann explained that if a customer wants a jet tub instead of the standard tub, they can upgrade to design a home they want.

Vermont Homes also offers modern features that have become standard to their homes including auto-return drawers for kitchens.

Thiemann builds homes with special characteristics that sets them apart from other builders including detailed woodwork and trim.

He also builds a home with “curb appeal” making his homes unique from other homes with stone columns and bases.

“What the customer wants is what we give them,” Thiemann said.

Vermont Homes also works with first-time home buyers offering custom built home on the lower end.

Thiemann offers a signature stairway which is flared at the bottom along with various types of vaulted ceilings.

Another feature within the homes are glass transom windows above the interior doors, giving a unique look to a hallway.

Vermont Homes focuses on customer service and satisfaction.

“We want our customers to come back for any future needs,” Thiemann said.

Many of their projects come from referrals from passed pleased customers.

“Referrals are our biggest sales,” he said.

Homes are designed to fit the customers lifestyle. Vermont Homes offers ramblers, split entries, and single level homes for easy access.

Vermont Homes began with Thiemann designing and building custom trim work in 1974 and continues to do that work today. This part of the company has them working on entry level to multi-million dollar homes in the metro area.

“This is a large part of Vermont Homes,” Thiemann said.

He began designing and building new homes in 1994 and continues to work with customers on additions and remodeling of their homes and doing service work for new homes.

Also, the company builds commercial and light commercial buildings.

Currently, their office is located in-house on Winsted Lake, but will soon have a new office in 2007, on 230th Street or Old Airport Road in Winsted.

Vermont Homes is a member of Crow River Builders Association, member of the Winsted Chamber of Commerce, and the Better Business Bureau.
