Spec. Bricker coming home

Army National Guard Spec. Sabrina Bricker, daughter of Althea Van Heuveln of Quakertown, PA and Michael Van Heuveln of Dassel, and a 2001 graduate of Dassel-Cokato High School, is returning to the US after a deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom or Enduring Freedom, respectively.

Bricker will return to Fort Dix, NJ for debriefing, evaluations, and out-processing procedures before returning to her regularly assigned unit. She is a food service administrator with the 628th Aviation Support Battalion based in Anvill, PA. Bricker has served in the military for eight years.

Revard receives scholarship

Taylor Revard, daughter of Shannon and Nona Revard of Cokato, recently received a $1,000 University Scholarship from Minnesota State University in Moorhead, where she intends to major in speech, language, and hearing science. The scholarship is given to freshman students with a composite ACT score of 24 to 25, and a high school rank in the top 50 percent; or a composite ACT score of 21 to 23, and a high school class rank in the top 10 percent.

Local students on dean’s lists

Staci Paul of Cokato was recently named to the highest honors list for the 2009 fall semester at Vermilion Community College in Ely, for attaining a grade point average of 3.75 for the semester.

Kirby Graff of Dassel was recently named to the 2009 fall semester dean’s list at the University of North Dakota for earning a grade point average in the top 15 percent of the degree granting college of the university.

Kezia Kirkpatrick of Cokato was recently named to the 2009 fall semester dean’s list at Rochester Community & Technical College for achieving a grade point average between 3.0 and 4.0 for courses completed in the semester ending this past December.

Audrianna Fasching of Cokato was recently named to the 2009 fall semester dean’s list at the University of Minnesota in Duluth where she attends the Education & Human Service Program for pre-medicine/psychology.

Beth Keskey was recently named to the 2009 fall semester honors list at Minnesota State University in Mankato for earning a 3.5 to 3.99 grade point average and being enrolled in at least 12 credit hours for a grade.

Amanda Halonen and Kathleen Koivisto, both of Cokato, were recently named to the 2009 fall semester dean’s list at Northern Michigan University for earning a grade point average between 3.25 and 3.99.

Sara Brandel of Cokato was recently named to the 2009 fall semester dean’s list at the University of Minnesota in Morris for earning a grade point average of 3.67 or higher and completing a minimum of 12 credits for the semester.

Jordan Struthers accepted at SMSU

Jordan Struthers, son of Steve and Deborah Struthers of Cokato, was recently accepted for the fall 2010 semester at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, where he plans to major in music.

Local students graduate college

David Mills of Cokato graduated fall 2009 from North Dakota State University in Fargo, where he earned a doctor of philosophy degree in history.

Two students from Cokato graduated Dec. 20 from St. Cloud State University: Kyle Anderson, with a bachelor of science degree in technology management; and Jamie Kilpela, with a bachelor of science degree in management.

Birth: Devin Joseph Madson

Sara Gehrke and Jacob Madson of Dassel are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Devin Joseph Madson, Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at the Buffalo Hospital.

Devin weighed 9 pounds, 1.4 ounces, and measured 21 inches long.
