Local students on dean’s lists

Jeremy Quaas of Lester Prairie was recently named to the 2009 fall semester high honors list at Vermilion Community College in Ely, for attaining a semester grade point average of 3.5.

Michelle Falk of Mayer was recently named to the 2009 fall semester dean’s list at Rochester Community & Technical College, for achieving a grade point average between 3.0 and 4.0 for courses completed in the semester ending this past December.

Several area students were recently named to the 2009 fall semester dean’s list at Minnesota State University in Mankato. Students earning a 4.0 grade point average were named to the high honors list, and those earning a 3.5 to 3.99 grade point average were named to the honors list. The students are: from Lester Prairie – Brittney Aamodt, high honors; Brian Baumann, honors; Heather Foust, honors; Brook Jilek, high honors; and Kelsey Jilek, honors; from Mayer – Nicole Good, honors; Kara Kelzer, honors; Matthew Oltrogge, honors; Ethan Rasset, high honors; and Stacy Vinkemeier, honors; from Watertown – Valerie Hoese, honors; Ashley Larson, honors; and Anthony Muchow, honors; and from Winsted – Benjamin Daigle, honors; Leah Michaels, honors; Megan Scherping, honors; Samantha Schommer, honors; and Aaron Thiemann, honors.

Several area students were recently named to the 2009 fall semester dean’s list at North Dakota State University in Fargo for earning a 3.5 grade point average or higher, and being enrolled in 12 class credits. The students and their majors are: from Winsted – Abigail Debner, horticulture; and from Waverly – Amber Cardinal, exercise science; Christe Young, nursing; and Thomas Young, agricultural and biosystems engineering.

Alan Holasek of Lester Prairie was recently named to the 2009 fall semester dean’s list at Concordia University in St. Paul for earning a 3.5 or higher grade point average, where he is a freshman majoring in theatre arts.

Sara Butterfass, Julie Rohling, and Karl Schliep, all of Howard Lake, were recently named to the 2009 fall semester dean’s list at the University of Minnesota in Morris for earning a grade point average of 3.67 or higher and completing a minimum of 12 credits for the semester.

Several are students were recently named to the 2009 fall semester dean’s list at the University of Minnesota in Duluth for earning a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. The students are: from Cokato – Audrianna Fasching, who attends the Education & Human Service Program for pre-medicine/psychology; from Howard Lake – Brian Pettit, who attends the College of Liberal Arts for a bachelor of arts degree in criminology; from Lester Prairie – Naomi Martin, who attends the Education & Human Service Program for psychology; from New Germany – Jason Hafemann, who attends the College of Liberal Arts for bachelor of arts degrees in international studies and history; and from Watertown – Taylor Essen, who attends the Swenson College of Science and Engineering for a bachelor of science degree in chemistry.

Local students graduate college

Andrew McKenzie of Watertown graduated fall 2009 from North Dakota State University in Fargo with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.

Several area students graduated Dec. 20 from St. Cloud State University. The students are: from Mayer – Roslyn Breyfogle, who received a graduate certificate in autism; and from Watertown – Sarah Ewald, who graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology; and Gary Marschel, who graduated with an associate of arts degree.

Wedding: Krystal Fiecke and Matt Conklin

Krystal Fiecke, daughter of Steve and Pam Fiecke of Winsted, and Matthew Conklin, son of Allen and Jan Conklin of Glencoe, were united in marriage Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, with Father Anthony Hesse officiating.

Grandparents of the bride are Virgil and Ruth Latzig of Lester Prairie and Aggie Fiecke of Silver Lake. Grandparents of the groom are Zita Willger and Eleanore Thoni of Rice Lake, WI.

Megan Riehm was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Nicole Caouette and Brenda Vetsch. Scott Conklin was bestman. Groomsmen were Brandon Fiecke and Mark Conklin. Haley Conklin was the flower girl, usherettes were Jess Conklin and Mandy Conklin, Alison Penaz was personal attendant; and program distributors were Ryan Fiecke, Kelsey Kapinos, and Linnea Beckman. Soloist and pianist was Carrie Knott, and reader for the Mass was Karen Dawes.

The outside candles that were lit by the mothers of the couple were Krystal and Matt’s baptismal candles. The unity candle was handmade by Rev. and Mrs. Loren Boettcher of Missouri, great-uncle and aunt to the bride.

The couple is making their home in Glencoe.

Birth: Kendal Jayne Emmings

Jacob and Stefanie Emmings of Winsted are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Kendal Jayne Emmings, Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at the Buffalo Hospital.

Kendal weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces, and measured 19.75 inches long.

Birth: Abbagail Grace Hoese

Brad and Anita Hoese of Winsted are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Abbagail Grace Hoese, Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.

Abbagail weighed 5 pounds, 9 ounces, and measured 17-1/2 inches long. She is welcomed home by siblings Michael, Ashley, and Branden.

Grandparents are Alice Lachermeier and the late Paul Lachermeier of Winsted, and Ralph and Delores Hoese of Winsted.

Birth: Alan Leroy Schauer

Noemi Cruz and Corey Shauer of Winthrop are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Alan Leroy Schauer, Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.

Alan weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces, and measured 21 inches long. He is welcomed home by sibling Aylin Mendoza.

Gradparents are Alan Schauer of Lafayette, Judy Baldwin of Lester Prairie, Florencio Cruz of Mexico, and Luisa Arizmendi of Mexico.
