Dwight R. Carlen, age 48, of South Haven, died Thursday, Nov. 13 at St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula, Mont.
Funeral services were 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 18 at Zion Lutheran Church in Annandale with the Rev. Thomas Queck officiating. Burial was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Sauk Rapids. Friends called from 4 - 9 p.m. Monday at the Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the church in Annandale. Zion Lutheran prayers were 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids.
Dwight was born May 14, 1949 in Cokato, Minn. to Orville R. and Dorothy (Anderson) Carlen. He married Janet Montag, July 12, 1969 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Popple Creek. He lived in the Annandale area most of his life and was self-employed as a contractor for Carlen Residential, Inc. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Annandale, where he served as chairman of the congregation for the past four years.
He is survived by his wife, Janet of South Haven; mother, Dorothy and step-father, Otto Gruenhagen of Howard Lake. He is father and father-in-law to Rhonda A. Carlen and Louis Jullie of St. Cloud, Mellisa J. and Craig Oberg of Glenwood, and Joseph R. Carlen of St. Cloud. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Barb Lambert of Riverton, Wyo.; Gerald Gruenhagen of Howard Lake; Kathy Steffes of St. Cloud; Susan Snyder of St. Cloud; Janet Hugo of Dassel; and two grandchildren, Cameron and Kaylyn Oberg.
He was preceded in death by his father and daughter, Angela Kay Carlen.
Casketbearers were Ron Klaphake, Dr. Thomas Peterson, Terry Barfknecht, Eugene Tople, Gerald Gruenhagen, Steven Mohring, David Rohling and Bob Lindom.
