Viola L. Gatz, age 90 of Waconia, Minn. died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997 at Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.
She was born April 15, 1907 at Waconia Township, Carver County, Minn., the daughter of Otto T. and Louise (Jackel) Klammer. Viola was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia by the Rev. William Friedrich, May 19, 1907 and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. William Schneider, April 24, 1921.
On June 18, 1925, she married Theodore E. Gatz at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia by the Rev. Schneider.
Viola enjoyed crocheting, needlework and quilting. She was a member of Seniors for Christ at Trinity Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Waconia Senior Citizens and sang with the "Grandmas and Grandpas." She was named Carver County Outstanding Citizen in 1987.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore; son Milton, son-in-law Donald Lhotka, one grandson, and her parents, Otto and Louise Klammer.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Gregory and Connie Gatz of Lester Prairie; daughters, Arvilla Lhotka of Waconia and Vivian Gutzke of Waconia; daughter-in-law Irene Gatz of Winsted; 13 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Laura Griepentrog of Excelsior, Helen and Fred Schmidt of Waconia; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia at 1:30 p.m. with the Revs. Dean E. Mahlum and James Wilks officiating.
Interment was at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Waconia. Casket bearers were grandsons, Dale Gatz, Brian Gatz, Donald Lhotka, Mark Gutzke, Gary Gutzke and Lyle Gutzke.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
