Norma Esther Neff

Norma Esther Neff, age 51 of Winsted, died Friday, Nov. 28, 1997 at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, Minn.

She was born in Parkers Prairie, Minn. on June 21,1946, the daughter of Oscar and Emma Steinke Schauland.

Norma was baptized as an infant by the Reverend Victor Gerike at St. James Lutheran Church in South Effington, Otter Tail County, Minn. She was also instucted in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith by the Reverend B.C. Betow at St. James Lutheran Church in South Effington on May 29, 1960.

Norma was a 1964 graduate of Parkers Prairie High School. Following her graduation from high school, she attended and graduated from Alexandria Technical College.

Norma was a former medical technologist at Children's Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisc.

On Dec. 27, 1969, Norma Esther Schauland was joined in holy marriage to James J. Neff at St. James Lutheran Church in South Effington, Minn. The Reverend Russell Hansen performed the ceremony. God blessed their marriage with three children: Carla, Patricia, and Brian.

She was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Winsted. While a member of St. John's, she was a member of its LWML, served as a monitor at St. John's School , and was active in the Ladies Guild of Lutheran High School in Mayer.

Norma also had served as a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital in Winsted. She currently was the office manager of James J. Neff, DDS in Winsted. Norma enjoyed several hobbies among which were reading,cooking and baking, gardening and traveling. She enjoyed being with her family and her family's hobbies, especially the karate events.

Surviving her are her husband, Dr. James J. Neff; children, Dr. Carla (Christopher) Heino of St. Bonifacius, Patricia Neff of Chaska, Brian J. Neff of Winsted; her father, Oscar Schauland of Parkers Prairie; a sister, Ruth Schauland; brothers, Marvin (Gloria) Schauland, and John (Mary) Schauland, all of Parkers Prairie.

Further surviving her are her mother-in-law, Nancy Neff of Chippewa Falls, Wisc., brothers-in-law, Lewis (Joy) Neff, Leonard Neff, and Richard (Lisa) Neff, all of Chippewa Falls, Wisc.; nieces: Amy (Greg) Riedel, Becky Schauland, Carrie Schauland, Dena Schauland, Jill (Ryan) Lorsung, and Toni Schauland; Florence Neff, Kailen Neff, Jamie Neff, Brittani Neff, Angela (Doug) Daniels, and Tina Simons; great nephews and nieces, Coleman Daniels, Hannah Daniels, MacKenzie "Mac" Daniels, and Christopher Simons and also by many other relatives and friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her mother Emma Schauland in 1992 and by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services for Norma Esther Neff were held on Monday, Dec. 1, 1997 at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake at 2 p.m. Pastors Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiated.

Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted on Sunday, Nov. 30 from 4 p.m. Until 8:30 p.m. A prayer service was held Sunday evening at the funeral home at 8 p.m.

Nancy Butterfass was the service's organist. "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me," "Nearer, My God to Thee," and "Beautiful Savior" were sung as congregational hymns.

"Flower in the Rain" by Jaci Velasquez was also played during the service.

The casket bearers were: Leonard Neff, Christopher Heino, Evonne Kremer , Marvin, John, and Mark Schauland.

A prayer service at St. James Lutheran Church in South Effington preceded the interment at St. James South Effington Cemetery.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
