Walter F. Roepke

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997 for Walter F. Roepke, age 86, of New Germany, Minn.

He died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997 at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, Minn.

He was born March 24, 1911 at Camden Township, Carver County, Minn., the son of William and Ottelia (Lemke) Roepke. He was baptized April 23, 1911 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hollywood Township by the Reverend Theodore Rolf and confirmed April 15, 1925 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany by the same.

On May 27, 1934, he married Laura D. Burdorf at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg by the Reverend H. J. Bauman.

Walter farmed his entire lifetime. He enjoyed Old Time music and playing the accordion and trumpet.

Surviving him are his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and David Effertz of New Germany; sons and daughter-in-law, Harvey Roepke of Granite Falls, Arnie and Lynn Roepke of New Germany; grandchildren, Jonathan Effertz, Daniel Effertz and Beth Roepke.

He is further survived by his nephew and wife, Gerald and Karen Roepke of New Germany and their children, Eric and Patti Roepke, Paul and Julie Roepke, Mary and Doug Stuedeman, and Nathan Roepke; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marie Schwich of Green Isle, Marie and Harold Hecksel of Mayer, Alpha Burdorf of Little Falls, John Burdorf of Arlington, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Water was preceded in death by by wife Laura; parents, William and Ottelia Roepke, sisters, Lena Domjahn and Martha Karels; and brothers, Emil, Carl, Herman, William, Fred and Ewald Roepke.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany, Minn., with the Reverend Jack E. Dahl officiating.

Interment was at the church cemetery. Casketbearers were: Randy Pawelk, Herman Templin, Elmer Latzig, Lowell Latzig, Kendall Mielke, and Vernon Domjahn.
