Mabel Louise Sherva was born March 25, 1912 in Howard Lake,
Minn., the daughter of Henry and Emma (Zech) Glessing, a life-long member
of St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake.
She was baptized April 21, 1912 by the Rev. A. L. Oetjen
and confirmed in her faith May 30, 1926 by the Rev. C. G. Seltz.
Mabel was united in marriage to Ben Sherva Jan. 21, 1944
by the Rev. C. G. Seltz. This union was blessed with the birth of a daughter.
Ben and Mabel made their home on a 120-acre farm five miles
southwest of Howard Lake. Working together, they farmed until retiring in
April of 1967 when they purchased a home in Howard Lake and moved to town.
As a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Mabel had been
active in the ABC Bible Study Group and enjoyed quilting with the Naomi
Guild.
On Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan
Center, Mabel was called to her eternal rest at the age of 85 years, eight
months and 27 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Emma
Glessing; husband, Ben Sherva; two brothers, Warren and Howard Glessing;
and one brother-in-law, Theodore Handrich.
Mabel is survived by her daughter Shirley and her husband
Marlin Diers; two grandsons Derek and Mitchell; three brothers and their
wives, Omar and Verna Glessing, Maurice and Eva Glessing and Lorren and
Jeanne Glessing; one sister, Eva Handrich, all of Howard Lake; two sisters-in-law,
Vernice Glessing and Edna Glessing; nieces, nephews, her extended Good Samaritan
Care Center family, and a host of relatives and friends.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home
of Howard Lake.
Services were Dec. 24 at St. James Lutheran Church with
the Rev. Michael, the Rev. Nirva and the Rev. Schoenfeld officiating. The
organist was Nancy Butterfass.
Interment was at the Howard Lake Cemetery. Pallbearers
were Allen Glessing, Neal Glessing, Richard Glessing, Rollie Glessing, Roger
Handrich and John Handrich.
