Erwin O. Brandenburg

Funeral services were Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, for Erwin O. Brandenburg, age 89 of Mound, Minn. He died Friday, July 31, 1998, at Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia, Minn.

Erwin was born July 25, 1909, in Watertown Township, Minn., the son of Otto and Anna (Ketcher) Brandenburg. He was baptized on Aug. 29, 1909 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Watertown Township, by the Rev. F. H. Kretzschman; and confirmed there on March 25, 1923 by the Rev. Paul Beck.

On June 8, 1938, Erwin married Emma O. Barfknecht at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Green Isle, Minn. by the Rev. R. W. Rottmann.

Erwin and Emma farmed for 16 years on his parent's farm, until they moved to Mound in 1960. He then went to work for the Westonka School District, after which he spent 13 years with Tonka Toys.

Erwin was an active member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, serving the office of elder and as a member of the Men's Club. He delivered Meals on Wheels, loved to fish, and was caretaker of many places.

Erwin was preceded in death by children, James, Ronald, and Marcia; parents, Otto and Anna Brandenburg; brother Paul and wife Rose Brandenburg; sister Cora and husband Elmer Gesell.

He is survived by his wife Emma; brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Edna Brandenburg of Waconia; sister and brother-in-law, Lorena and Roy Herrmann of Minnetonka; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Kurt and Esther Topel of Watertown, Cora Lange of Mound, Hilda Ketcher of Mound, Lillian Barfknecht of Watertown, and Virginia Barfknecht of Buffalo.

He is further survived by "his two girls," Renee and Hilliere, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Services were at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church with the Revs. Thomas Evans and Rodney Ketcher officiating. Interment was in the public cemetery, Watertown.

Casket bearers were Harlan Brandenburg, David Brandenburg, Jerry Kahle, Keith Ketcher, Alden Lange, and Rhett Dressel.
