Joan Agnes Crowley

Joan Agnes Crowley, age 74 of Slayton, Minn., died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998.

Joan was born Jan. 24, 1924, on a farm in Hersey Township, Nobles County, Minn., to Lee and Mary Magdeline Wallace McConnell. She grew up in Worthington and Brewster and graduated from Worthington High School in 1941.

On June 11, 1945, Joan married Vincent Crowley at St. Mary's Church in Worthington. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm near Wirock, Minn. until 1955, and then moved to their farm south of Slayton.

Joan worked at Wayne's Department Store and then, Iona Lumber Yard, retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. Columba Church in Iona and was active in the Ladies Aid and Catholic Daughters. She belonged to Home Extension and the Murray County Historical Museum.

Some of Joan's favorite pastimes were sewing, gardening, breadmaking, and being a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In November, 1995, Joan became a resident of Slayton Manor, where she died on Nov. 3, 1998 at the age of 74.

Survivors include her husband Vincent of Iona; 10 children and their spouses: Dennis and Ann Crowley of Theilman, Minn., Tom and Marilyn Crowley of Kellogg, Minn., Greg and Brenda Crowley of Osseo, Minn., Pat and Dennis Spartz of Slayton, Tim and Denise Crowley of Granite Falls, Minn., Brian and Dianne Crowley of Slayton, Kevin and Mary Crowley of Pennock, Minn., Valerie and Dan Selness of Willmar, Minn., Monica and Dennis Bryngelson of Champlin, Minn., and Clem and Deb Crowley of Howard Lake; 22 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Jack McConnell; and sister, Mary Wemple and her husband, James, all of Worthington.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Anne.

Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998 at St. Columba Church in Iona at 11:30 a.m., with the Rev. Eugene Egan officiating. The pianist was Stephie Crowley and the song leader was Sheila Crowley.

Visitation was at the church from 4 to 8 p.m on Wednesday and after 8 a.m. on Thursday, until the time of the service. There was a 4:30 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m prayer service at the church on Wednesday.

Pallbearers were her grandsons: Travis Spartz, Paul Spartz, Matt Crowley, Chad Crowley, Ryan Crowley, Nick Bryngelson, Adam Bryngelson and Trenton Selness. Interment was in St. Columba Cemetery in Iona, Minn.
