Katherine Louise Douglas

Katherine Louise Douglas, 88, Cokato, formerly of Waverly, passed away Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at Ag-Gwah-Ching in Walker, Minn.

Katherine was born in Eden Prairie, Minn. on Feb. 12, 1910, the daughter of Wallace and Amelia (Chrisse) Tuckey. Katherine attended a rural school in Eden Prairie, completing the eighth grade by age 11.

She received her high school education at Hopkins High School, graduating at age 15. Katherine began her college education at St Cloud Normal school (SCSU), graduating with a teaching degree in 1928. She began teaching school in Montrose, Minn. in the fall of 1928.

Katherine lived with Wilton and Margaret Stevens of Montrose during her teaching career. While working in Montrose, she met (William) Donald Douglas. Katherine and Don were married in 1929.

They began their life-long career of farming north of Montrose, lived at six other farming locations in Wright County and moved to Tipperary Farm, Waverly, Nov. 1, 1943.

Throughout Katherine's married life, she was an instrumental player in the success of Tipperary Farm. A talented manager, devoted mother and active 4-H leader, she devoted her life to her family and their farm.

Katherine was a member of the Montrose Methodist Church, the WSCS 500, the church choir, QQ's social club, member of the Board of Directors of the Wright County Retirement Center from 1963-69, a volunteer driver for Wright County Social Services and active in the Republican Party throughout her life.

A great historian, Katherine was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting during her retirement. Katherine and Don enjoyed 17 warm winters together at their winter home in Mesa, Ariz., following their retirement from farming.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Amelia Tuckey; brother, Loring Tuckey; brothers-in-law, Rich Buch and David Douglas; and nephew, Kenneth Buch.

Katherine is survived by her husband of 69 years, Donald of Cokato; children: Patricia (Chandler) Davis of Cokato, Shirley (Roger) Setterberg of Willmar and Ralph (Mary) Douglas of Waverly.

She is further survived by 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Abby (Albert) Picha of Eden Prairie, Margaret (Ed) Roach of San Diego, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Mildred Tuckey, Hopkins; Anne Douglas, Buffalo; Margaret (Oscar) Esala, Alexandria and Mary Buch (Delano); 11 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Katherine were on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Montrose. The Rev. Marvin E. Repinski officiated and interment followed at the Kreidler Cemetery.

Friends called at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo on Tuesday, Aug. 11 from 4 - 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Patricia Munson was the accompanist for the funeral service. Carolyn Holm and Matthew O'Connell were the vocalists.

Loring and Paul Davis, Jeffery Douglas, Michael Holm, Stephen Setterberg, and Timothy Woeste served as casket bearers.

Memorials are suggested for the Montrose United Methodist Church.
