Funeral services were Monday, May 25 for Vernon W. Farber, 72, of Winsted, Minn.
He died Friday, May 22, 1998 at his home in rural Winsted, Minn.
Vernon was born Oct. 8, 1925 at Hollywood Township, Carver County, Minn., the son of Albert and Martha (Pawelk) Farber.
He was baptized in 1925 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany by the Rev. Theodore Rolf and confirmed April 2, 1939 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany by Rolf.
On June 5, 1948, Vernon married Lorraine Ann Barlau at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. Elmer Schwandt.
Vernon served in the Army in World War II. Vern was a faithful and loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved his children and grandchildren and instilled in them his Christian values.
He was an active member at St. John's Lutheran Church in Winsted. His livelihood for many years was farming and he had a great love for the land. He enjoyed working in his shop and was a wonderful all-around fixit man.
Vernon's 52 years of music brought him much joy as an accordionist, from a seven-piece orchestra to a three-piece combo and later as a single entertainer.
He played at supper clubs, social gatherings and shared his German heritage at the Bayrischer Hoff and the Gasthof-Zur Gemütlichkeit.
Vernon was preceded in death by parents Albert and Martha Farber; father-in-law and mother-in-law Edward and Ida Barlau; brother-in-law Roger Barlau.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine, children and spouses, Gary and Kim Farber of Orlando, Fla.; Steven and Elizabeth Farber of Sturgeon Lake, Lee and Linda Farber of Watertown, Mark and Kathy Farber of Bellvue, Colo.; Rita and Steve Mueller of Watertown, John and Patty Farber of Watertown, Lynn and Greg White of Maple Plain, David and Roxane Farber of Watertown; grandchildren, Shawn, Leah (John), Alexandra Lorraine, Nicollet, Danielle (John), Justin, Christy (Daniel), Naomi, Benjamin, Charity, Noel, Mary Grace, Seth, Joseph, Rachel Lorraine, Daniel, Ryan, Michael, Zachary, Lucas, Blake, Matthew, Summer, Audra, Caleb and MacKenzie; sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Juergen Bettcher of New Germany; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Arlys and Curtis Honebrink of Mayer, Anne Barlau and husband Gene Allen of St. Paul; aunts, Erna Pawelk of New Germany, Helen Farber of Hopkins; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Revs. Edwin Narrr and Jeff Harter officiating. Interment was at Watertown Public Cemetery, Watertown.
Casket bearers were grandsons Justin Farber, Ryan Mueller, Michael Mueller, Blake Farber, Benjamin Farber and Shawn Farber.
