Lydia Anna Goerke, age 75 of Maple Lake, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998 at the Park View Care Center.
She was born in Chatham Township, Wright County, on July 31, 1922, the daughter of Fred and Alvina Streich Koepke.
Lydia was baptized on Aug. 27, 1922 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Middleville Township, Wright County. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith on April 26, 1936. Lydia was given Hebrews 13:5 as her confirmation memory verse.
On July 19, 1942, Lydia Koepke was joined in holy marriage to Herbert Goerke at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis, S.D. God blessed their marriage with four children: DeLoris, DuWayne, Phyllis, and Gale.
Lydia was a faithful member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Middleville Township and belonged to the LWML. She was also a member of the auxiliary of V.F.W. Post # 7664 in Maple Lake.
Lydia is survived by children, DeLoris (Larry) Smith, DuWayne (Barb) Goerke, Phyllis (Bill) Paumen, all of Maple Lake, and Gale (Steve) Bernhardt of Maple Grove; grandchildren Shelly Henson, Becky Yager, Mary Scheiber, Jennifer Goerke, Miranda Goerke, Keith Goerke, Jody Paumen, Kim Jerome, Bill Paumen Jr., Missy Bernhardt and Troy Bernhardt; great-grandchildren, Stacy, Derek, and Melony Henson, Paige Yager, Robert and Jonathan Paumen, and Joey Jerome; brother Edwin Koepke of Annandale; sisters, Irma (Marvin) Uecker and Frieda Gunderson, all of Annandale.
She is further survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, by a sister Clara Klemz in 1989, and by her beloved husband Herbert F. Goerke on Oct. 20, 1997.
Funeral services for Lydia Goerke were held on Monday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Middleville Township. The Rev. Gary W. Berlinski officiated and interment followed at the church cemetery.
Friends called at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo on Sunday, Feb. 22 from 4 - 9 p.m. A prayer service was held at the chapel Sunday at 8 p.m.
Jeanette Beckala was the service's organist. Beckala and Miranda Goerke sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."
"I Would Not Live Always; I Ask Not to Stay," "The Old Rugged Cross," "Abide With Me," and "I Know that My Redeemer Lives," were sung as congregational hymns.
Casket bearers were Shelly Henson, Becky Yager, Mary Scheiber, Jennifer Goerke, Miranda Goerke, Kim Jerome, Missy Bernhardt, and Bobbi Jo Paumen.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
