Dorothy Lucille Geurts
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998 for Dorothy Lucille Geurts of Waverly, Minn., who died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998.
Dorothy was born on April 15, 1920 to Jacob and Margaret (Keaveny) Schauff in Tintah, Minn. She grew up and attended school in Tintah, going on to complete normal teachers training at Wheaton, Minn.
Dorothy taught rural school in Traverse County. She finished her formal education in Bemidji, then taught in Kelliher for 10 years.
On Aug. 7, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to Clarence Geurts. Monsignor T. Leo Keaveny performed the service at Breckenridge, Minn.
Clarence and Dorothy farmed in Traverse County until 1960. At that time, they moved to Glencoe, Minn., and owned and operated a bowling alley there until 1963. They then moved to Blackduck and owned and operated a Conoco gas station there.
In 1979, they retired to Tucson, Ariz. Dorothy volunteered at the Veterans Administration and school lunchroom. Clarence passed away while in Tucson.
Dorothy moved back to Minnesota five years ago to be closer to her family. She lived at the Cokato apartments and became involved in the VFW, Circle 1, and the foster grandparents program. She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella in Graceville, Minn.
Dorothy passed away at the Waconia Ridgeview Hospital on Aug. 28, 1998, having reached the age of 78 years, four months, and 13 days.
Survivors include her son, Eugene (Roxann) Geurts of Hazen, N.D. and their children: Aimee, Ashley, and Nathan; her daughter, Rosella Biggs of California and her children: Richard, Stan, Cory, and Shannon.
Dorothy is further survived by her sisters, Mary Barth and Cecelia Schmitz; and her brother, Leo Schauff.
In addition to her husband Clarence, she was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Margaret; brothers, Gerald and Cecil; and sisters, Ellen Tangen and Florence Gordon.
Services were at 10 a.m. from St. Mary's Church of Waverly on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998 with music by Patricia Munson and the St. Mary's Choir.
Lunch and fellowship followed the service at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Waverly.
Casket bearers were Tom Barth, Paul Schmitz, Terry Schmitz, Ronald Geurts, Donnie Schauff, and Greg Schauff.
