Edward Joseph Haekenkamp was born May 20, 1923 in Winsted, Minn. to Joseph and Ida (Heidenrich) Haekenkamp.
He grew up in Winsted and on Nov. 6, 1944 married Louise Mallak at the Church of St. Adalbert in Silver Lake.
They spent their first year of marriage in St. Paul where Edward did auto body work. They then moved to Waverly where Edward had the first Ford tractor dealership and then the Ford automobile dealership.
Edward passed away unexpectedly at Abbot Northwestern Hospital of Minneapolis on April 8, 1998. He had reached the age of 74 years, 10 months and 19 days.
Survivors include his wife of almost 54 years, Louise and their son, Jerry. He is further survived by his sister Della (Larry) Lewandowski and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Helen Mochinske.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter; sisters: Virginia Haekenkamp; Irene and Bert Fasching; brothers: Oscar and Ervin (Cecelia) Haekenkamp; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ted and Virginia Mallak.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 13, 1998 at St. Mary's Church of Waverly with the Reverend William Martin officiating.
Music was provided by Patricia Munson and St. Mary's Funeral Choir.
Casketbearers were: Kevin Mahon, Marcel Mallak, Everett Boehlke, Ron Lewandowski, Hubert Haekenkamp and Richard Etzel. Interment was in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
