Joyce Orda Karg, age 82, of Hutchinson, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson.
Funeral services were Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998 at 2 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with the Rev. Gerhard Bode officiating. Organist was Paul Otte. Soloists were Otte, who sang "This Is My Father's World," and James Strehlke, who sang "The Lord's Prayer." Congregational hymns were "Borning Cry," "Praise to the Lord the Almighty," "I Love Your Kingdom Lord," and "Abide with Me."
Interment was in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Hutchinson. Casket bearers were Harvey Karg, Harlow Karg, Carlie Karg, Van Karg, Jon Karg, and Todd Karg.
Honorary casket bearers were Darlene Strehlke, Joy Erickson, Jeanne Cassens, Linda Juncewski, and Gwen Wichman.
Joyce was born Feb. 28, 1915, in Minneota, Minn. She was the daughter of Nicholai and Selma (Johnson) Erickson. Joyce was baptized as an infant April 4, 1915, by the Rev. Scholander in Swede Prairie, Minn. She was confirmed as an adult June 23, 1950 by the Rev. Koehler at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. Joyce grew up and received her education at Brook Park, Minn.
Joyce was united in marriage to Carl John Karg Aug. 26, 1934 at Peace Lutheran Church by the Rev. Schulze. This marriage was blessed with 11 children. Carl passed away on May 24, 1983.
Joyce was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member at Peace Lutheran Church and was active in the Dorcas and Bible study. Her hobbies were gardening, quilting, baking, and she enjoyed playing cards with her grandchildren.
Joyce is survived by her sons, daughters, and spouses, Darlene and Vernon Strehlke of New Germany, Harvey and June Karg of Hutchinson, Harlow and Wilma Karg of Hutchinson, Joy and Roger Erickson of Bird Island, Carlie and Kay Karg of Hutchinson, Jeanne and Bryce Cassens of Hutchinson, Van and LeeAnn Karg of Hutchinson, Linda and Lenny Juncewski of Winsted, Jon Karg of Hutchinson, Gwen and Curt Wichman of Hutchinson, and Todd Karg of Hutchinson.
She is further survived by 39 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; sisters and spouses, Leona and Calvin Hopper of Isle, Minn., Gladys and Charles Pulkrabek of Hutchinson, Minnie and Bill Wicker of St. Paul, Fanchon Radtke of Lester Prairie.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholai and Selma Erickson; husband Carl Karg, grandson, Tony Cassens; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Virgil, Glen, and Elmo.
