William F. Knott, age 87 of Brooklyn Center and formerly of Forest Lake and Winsted, died at North Memorial Medical Center of Robbinsdale on Friday, March 13, 1998.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Winsted with Fr. Bob Wyffels officiating.
Interment was at Holy Trinity Cemetery. Visitation was held one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Arrangements were with the Winsted Funeral Home. Serving as casketbearers were Michael Knott, Joshua Knott, Erik Knott, Shawn Billstrom, David Dietrich, and Michael Billstrom.
William Knott was born in New Germany on July 4, 1910 to John and Mary (Sterner) Knott. He grew up in the New Germany and Winsted areas.
He was married to Esther Dietz and the couple made their home in Winsted and Glencoe. For many years, he worked as a mechanic for the Green Giant Company in Winsted and Glencoe.
When he retired, the couple moved to Forest Lake and following his wife's death in 1989, William made his home in Brooklyn Center.
He is survived by a son John Knott of Ely, Minn., a daughter Joan Gudmundsen of Brooklyn Center, nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, brother George Knott of Winsted, and two sisters: Clara Jorgensen of Winsted, and Sr. Amandus of Forest Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Esther
in 1989, three brothers: Jack, Eddie, and Ray, and a sister, Isabelle Lawrence.
