Evelyn Louise Lahr
Evelyn Louise Lahr, age 87 of Howard Lake, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998 at her home.
Evelyn was born July 9, 1911, the daughter of Fred and Carrie (Birkholz) Zander, at Howard Lake. A life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, she was baptized Aug. 6, 1911 by the Rev. Ernest Robert and confirmed in her faith on June 14, 1925 by the Rev. C. G. Seltz.
On June 15, 1930, Evelyn was united in marriage to John Lahr, Jr., at St. James Lutheran Church by the Rev. C. G. Seltz. This union was blessed with the birth of six children. The Lahrs made their home and living on the family farm northeast of Howard Lake.
Evelyn was a member of the St. James Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
On Oct. 20, 1998 while at home, Evelyn was called to her eternal rest at the age of 87 years, three months, and 11 days. She was preceded in death by her husband John; a son-in-law, Benny Major; and one grandson, Darrel Lee Major.
Evelyn is survived by three sons, Melmer and Renee Lahr of Howard Lake, Myron and Lucille Lahr of Howard Lake, Edwin and Peggy Lahr of Minneapolis; three daughters, Marcella Major of Howard Lake, Mavis and LeRoy Taber of Grand Rapids, Mich., Dianna and Jerry Boettcher of Coon Rapids; 24 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake. Services were held Saturday, Oct. 24 at St. James Lutheran Church with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. The organist was Diane Johnson, with special music by the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Interment was at the St. James Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Duane Major, Alan Lahr, Darrin Lahr, Kenneth Lahr, Scott Taber, and Bonnie Mahrer.
