Roy Herman Walter Latzig
Funeral services for Roy Herman Walter Latzig, 74, of rural Norwood Young America were held Saturday, July 11, at the Friedens County Line United Church Of Christ of rural Norwood Young America, with the Rev. Gene Sipprell officiating.
Mr. Latzig died on Wednesday, July 8, 1998.
The organist was Carol Heuer. A duet of Michelle Powell and Carrie Knott sang "On Eagles Wings" and "The Old Rugged Cross." The congregational hymn was "What A Friend We Have In Jesus."
Pallbearers were Clarence Zellmann, Tim Zellmann, Tom Kosek, Kenneth Schwartz, Marty Ziermann and Harlan Ohland. Interment was in the Ferguson Cemetery of Norwood Young America.
Mr. Latzig was born to Paul and Margaret (Koehler) Latzig on Sept. 28, 1923 in Camden Township of Carver County. He was baptized Oct. 23, 1923 at the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in New Germany by the Rev. Theo Rolf. He was later confirmed by the Rev. Rolf at St. Mark's on April 10, 1938. Mr. Latzig attended the St. Mark's Parochial School in New Germany through the eighth grade. His childhood was spent at the family farm south of New Germany on County Road 30.
On Oct. 19, 1944, Mr. Latzig was united in marriage with Ellen S. Kuhlmann at St. Mark's by the Rev. John Meyer. The couple made their home on her home farm east of Plato on 122nd street. He had worked for Pinske Lumber for a period of time and later did farmwork for Ed Wroge.
In 1963, the Latzigs purchased a farm in Camden Township on County Road 135 where they have farmed and lived since.
Mr. Latzig had served on the Friedens Church Council in various capacities. He also had helped with church ground and building maintenance. He always was there to help friends and neighbors with farmwork.
He enjoyed fishing year round and playing cards. Mr. Latzig had also enjoyed spending time in his garden and sawing firewood for his home.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen, of Norwood Young America; children, Ruth Kirsch and husband, James Jr., of St. Bonifacious, Elroy Latzig of Norwood Young America, Betty Latzig of Norwood Young America; grandchildren, Karen Kirsch of St. Bonifacious, Ellen Canfield of Norwood Young America, Joanne Canfield of Norwood Young America; sisters: Marth Ziermann and husband, Hilbert, of Mayer, Hildegarde Schwartz of Mayer, Marcella Gebhardt and husband, Orlando, of Winsted; brothers, Harold Latzig and wife, Marie, of Lester Prairie, Martin Latzig and wife, Ruth Ann, of Howard Lake, Roland Latzig and wife, Carol, of Norwood Young America, Lowell Latzig and wife, Darlene, of New Germany; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Leona Latzig of New Germany, George and Hilda Ohland of Waconia, Florence Kuhlmann of Glencoe, Elmer Kuhlmann of Norwood Young America and Norma Klaustermeier of Minneapolis; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Selma; brother, Elmer; stepsister, Selma Drews; brothers-in-law, Gilbert Kuhlmann and Leland Schwartz.
The Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel of Norwood Young America handled arrangement.
