Eva (Mammy) Gladys Leigh, age 103, went to be with the Lord Friday, Jan. 30, 1998. She died at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Stillwater, Minn., where she has lived for the past few years.
She was born in southern Wright County, Minn., near Winsted, the daughter of the late George Gulson and Nancy (Eggert) Gulson. She graduated from high school and later the Normal Teachers School, and for some years taught at Wirt, Minn.
On Aug. 4, 1922, she was united in marriage to Frank (Pappy) Leigh at Grand Rapids, Minn. They lived at Dora Lake and then in Akeley, where her husband learned to be a barber. They later lived in Wadena for a time before moving to Monticello, where Frank had a barber shop next to Gould Bros. Chev-Olds Agency from 1931 to 1961.
When Frank left Gould Bros., they moved to Litchfield, Minn. They were charter members of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Monticello. In 1987, they moved to St. Paul.
She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Jewell and Glen Burkholder of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Vada and Ted Leigh of Oakdale, Minn.; daughter-in-law Nathalie (Mrs. Dale Leigh) of Bloomington; 12 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Eva in death were her parents; her husband Frank in March 1989, son Dale Leigh, and a grandson David, along with two sisters and four brothers.
Friends called at Peterson-Grismo Chapel, Monticello, from 1 - 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6. Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with burial following at Riverside Cemetery, Monticello. The Rev. Alan Swanson officiated at the funeral.
