Linnea Christina Warling, daughter of Albert and Lydia (Beck) Warling was born July 24, 1906 near St. James, Minn. She was baptized and confirmed at the East Sveadahl Lutheran Church near St. James.
Linnea received her education at a country school near her home and at the Gustavus Adolphus Academy in St. Peter, concentrating on music.
On Sept. 26, 1929, Linnea was united in marriage to Harold Madson. They farmed near LaSalle, Minn. before buying their farm near Butterfield, where they raised their six children.
Linnea was active in many community activities, as well as her church, where she served as organist well into the '80s. She also directed children and adult choirs, and taught piano lessons for over 50 years.
Linnea entered the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center on April 23, 1997, and continued to play the organ for devotions until three weeks before her death. She passed away quietly on Sunday, June 28, 1998, at the age of 91 years, 11 months and four days.
Linnea is survived by her daughter, Marjorie (Jim) Tesch of Howard Lake, five sons: Dr. Mailand (Grace) Madson, Northfield; Howard (Ellen) Madson, St. Louis Park; Charles (Polly) Madson, Faribault; DuWayne (Angie) Madson, Butterfield; Claire (Rae) Madson, Clearwater, Fla.; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by one brother Luverne Warling, Mission, Texas; two sisters, Loretta Eckstrom, Mayer, Minn. and Lucille Anthony, Faribault, Minn.; five sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson, a great-grandson, a daughter-in-law, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 1, at the First Lutheran Church in Butterfield, Minn with interment at the Butterfield Community Cemetery.
