Marie A. Piehl
Funeral services for Marie A. Piehl, 95, of Silver Lake were held on Wednesday, Nov. 25 from the Congregational Church of Silver Lake, with the Rev. Tom Rakow officiating.
Mrs. Piehl died on Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, at Glencoe Area Health Center.
Pianist was Cheryl Jakobitz, and soloist was LaDon Rydberg.
Pallbearers were Gene Piehl, Gary Piehl, Michael Piehl, Dean Piehl, Alan Piehl and Christopher Stevens. Interment was in the Stewart City Cemetery.
Mari3 A. Sell was born on Aug. 29, 1903 to Carl and Dorothea (Frauendienst) Sell at Stewart. She spent her youth in the Stewart area and attended District 59 country school. She was baptized on Oct. 11, 1903 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Stewart and confirmed in 1916 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stewart.
On Aug. 26, 1923 she married Erbin N. Piehl at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stewart.
Mrs. Piehl was a busy farm wife. She also worked at Green Giant for many years.
Some of her hobbies were gardening, crocheting, making rugs, sharing her baking skills with family and friends and cutting hundreds of thousands of quilt blocks for the Navahos in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Mrs. Piehl was a member of the Congregational Church in Silver Lake, Ladies Aid and a member of the Silver Lake Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by sons, Ralph Piehl and wife, Helen, of Silver Lake, Gerald Piehl and wife, Bernice, of Dassel; daughter, Myra Bushard of Gibbon; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Berdina Luehring and Gertrude Ruschmeyer of Glencoe.
She was preceded in death by her husband Erbin; brothers, Otto, Ervin, John and Orlando Sell; sisters, Hattie Ruschmeyer, Lena Mueller and Rose Bussler; and son-in-law, Leo Bushard.
Funeral arrangements were by Maresh Funeral Home Silver Lake.
