Ione Minnie Rathkamp
Ione Minnie Rathkamp died on Monday, July 17, 1998 at her home in Howard Lake, Minn.
She was born on Sept. 14, 1912 at Howard Lake, the daughter of August and Augusta (Bobrowske) Birkholz.
A life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, she was baptized Oct. 20, 1912 by the Rev. A. L. Oetjen and confirmed in her faith on May 30, 1926 by the Rev. C. G. Seltz.
On June 7, 1933, Ione was united in marraige to Burton Rathkamp at St. James Church by the Rev. C. G. Seltz. This union was blessed with the birth of six children, three sons and three daughters. They made their home on a farm south of town in Victor Township on Lake Ann.
Ione was active in her church as a member of the Lutheran Womens Missionary League (LWML), ABC Bible Class and the St. James Seniors. She also did volunteer work at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center.
While at home on July 17, 1998, Ione was called peacefully to her eternal rest at the age of 85 years, 10 months and three days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Augusta Birkholz; her husband Burton Rathkamp; five sisters, Tillie Fiedler, Alice Shepperd, Pauline Workman, Amelia Prigge, and Eva Birkholz; three brothers, Charles Birkholz, Arthur Birkholz, and Awalt Birkholz.
Ione is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Carole Ann and Rodney Gutzmann of Winsted; Joan and Daniel Larson of Bloomington; Paulette and Richard Wagoner of Fort Myers, Fla.; three sons and their wives, Darrell and Mary Rathkamp of Wyola, Mont., William and Sandra Rathkamp of Waverly; and Robert and Jen Rathkamp of Newhall, Calif.
She is further survived by 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Francis Shepperd of Howard Lake and Esther Ditmore of San Jancinto, Calif.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Services were held July 20, 1998 at St. James Lutheran Church with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. The organist was Nancy Butterfass with special music by the LWML Choir. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, David, Charles and James Gutzmann; Daniel Jr., Bruce and Michael Larson; Todd and Kurt Rathkamp; Jeffrey and Bert Rathkamp; Carl Wagoner; and Spencer Rathkamp.
