Ernst L. "Ernie" Ristow, age 86 of Lester Prairie, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998 at his residence in Bergen Township.
He was born in Hollywood Township, Carver County on Oct. 28, 1911, the son of Max and Augusta Buechner Ristow.
Ernst was baptized at his family's home in Hollywood Township on Dec. 10, 1911. He was also confirmed in the Christian faith on March 28, 1926 at the Evangelical Newly Reformed Church in Lester Prairie.
On Oct. 28, 1934, Ernst Ristow was joined in holy marriage to Helma Oelfke at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg. God blessed their marriage with a daughter, Marlene.
Ernst was a former truck driver, having drove several years for Lester Prairie Cement. He later drove 26 years for Schwartz Manufacturing of Lester Prairie, and retired at the age of 70.
He also engaged in farming, and he continued to farm after his retirement from Schwartz.
Ernst was a faithful member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Lester Prairie.
He enjoyed fishing and deer hunting.
Survivors include a son-in-law, Myles Sullivan of Richfield; granddaughters, Lisa (Allen) Stender of Lester Prairie and Peggy Sullivan of Winsted; great-grandchildren, Spenser and Rachel Stender; sisters and brothers: Esther Schmidt of Webster, Wisc.; August (Luella) Ristow of Norwood/Young America; Edwin Ristow of Lester Prairie; Henry (Iris) Ristow; Sophie (Wilford) Hasse; and Otto Ristow, all of Mayer; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Irene (Walter) Buckentin of Hamburg; many other relatives and friends.
Ernst was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Helma Ristow, in 1987; a daughter, Marlene Sullivan in 1988; Lillian Hoof; a brother and sisters: Paul Ristow, Ruth Ristow, Lillie Hoof, and Elsie Zabel; a sister-in-law, Erna Ristow; and brothers-in-law, August Zabel, John Hoof, and Steve Schmidt Sr.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Lester Prairie, with the Rev. Brian Brosz officiating. Interment followed at the Lester Prairie City Cemetery.
Bill and Janet Windsperger provided the special music for the funeral service.
Clarence Ehrke, Reuben Roos, Steven Ostlie, Bob Willmsen, Larry Ide, Guy Wuetherich, and Steven Schmidt served as the casket bearers.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted on Friday, Oct. 9 from 5 to 9 p.m., and also at the church one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday.
