Erwin A. Splettstoesser obituary 01/17/98


Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998 for Erwin
A. Splettstoesser, 90 of Waconia. He died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998 at Ridgeview
Medical Center in Waconia, Minn.
Erwin was born April 23, 1907, at Waconia, the son of Caroline
(Urbach) and Gustav Splettstoesser. He was baptized Sept. 11, 1907 at Trinity
Lutheran Church, Waconia by the Rev. William Friedrich and confirmed April
24, 1921, at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. William Schneider.
On Nov. 25, 1930, he married Myrtle E. Oestreich at St.
Peter’s Lutheran Church, Watertown Township, Carver County, Minn. by the
Rev. Karl Rudolph.
Erwin worked in the masonry business most of his life.
He and his brother, Ted, built a cement block plant in 1937. They divided
their time between mason work and manufacturing cement blocks.
In 1940, Erwin bought Ted’s share and went into business
for himself. He also sanded floors evening and weekends. Erwin retired in
1969.
Erwin’s greatest joy was his love for his children, grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and watching sports
on TV and the Rev. Billy Graham. Erwin truly was a man who enjoyed his life
to the fullest. He will be missed greatly.
Erwin was preceded in death by sons-in-law, Wesley Kohls,
Roy Wenning and Curtis Kunz; parents, Gustav and Caroline Splettstoesser;
brothers, Theodore and Oscar Splettstoesser; sisters, Lydia Gast and Elsie
Lettenmeier.
He is survived by wife Myrtle, daughters and sons-in-law,
Delores and Warren Goodridge of El Cajon, Calif., Lorna Wenning of Waconia,
Betty and Calvin Barlau of Waconia, Arlene Kohls of Waconia, LaVonne Kunz
of St. Paul; son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Susan Splettstoesser of
Richfield; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and
brothers-in-law, Lillian Smith of Waconia, Hubert Oestreich of Waconia,
Walter Oestreich of St. Louis Park, Genevieve Oestreich of Watertown; nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran
Church, Waconia with the Revs. Dean E. Mahlum and James Wilk officiating.
Interment was at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers
were grandsons, Mark Barlau, Ken Kohls, Keith Kohls, Larry Wenning, Lowell
Wenning, Dan Goodridge, Tim Kunz, and John Splettstoesser.
Honorary casket bearers were granddaughters, Laurie Woods,
Kathy Kalinowski, LuAnn Wenning, Kristi Barlau, Lisa Kunz, Julie Wynn, Julie
Schedlbauer, and Jill Owens.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
