Funeral services for Lorraine B. Sterud, age 78, Lester
Prairie, were held on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998 from the Evangelical United
Church of Christ, Lester Prairie. She died suddenly on Feb. 7 at her home.
Lorraine Bernice Sterud was born in Brookings, S.D. on
June 25, 1919, the daughter of Gerhard and Ida (Westerman) Sterud. She was
baptized at the First Lutheran Church in Brookings and confirmed there on
May 6, 1934.
She grew up and attended high school in Brookings. After
graduation she moved to Minnesota and lived with her sister, Ruby.
As a long-time member of the Evangelical U.C.C. in Lester
Prairie, she was active in the Womens Guild. Lorraine loved to sew new material
she bought, and her most recent “fun thing” was the television
remote. She was always ready to put on the coffee when friends came to visit.
Lorraine is survived by two sisters, Ruby Lung of Lester
Prairie, and Clarice Spies (husband, Ken) of Portland, Ore.; one brother,
George (wife, Stella) of Los Angeles, Calif.; sister-in-law Ella Sterud,
Prescott, Wisc.; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Marvin
Sterud; a sister, Esther Thompson; and a nephew, Arlen Lung.
Visitation was held Tuesday evening at the Paul-McBride
Chapel, Lester Prairie, with services Wednesday, 11 a.m., at the church.
The Rev. Kay Welsch officiated and congregational hymns, “Amazing Grace”
and “How Great Thou Art,” were sung. The organist was Marie Eischens.
Casketbearers were David Lung, Jonathan Lung, Mark Hazel,
Gordon Houk, Larry Burandt, and Douglas Dibb. The honorary bearer was Kathe
Cunningham. Interment was in the Lester Prairie City Cemetery.
