Clyde Timothy Tomlinson

Clyde Timothy Tomlinson, age 85 of Dassel, died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998.

Clyde, the son of James and Nora (Wicker) Tomlinson was born in rural Howard Lake on Oct. 12, 1913. He attended Maple Grove rural school and graduated from the Cokato High School.

In 1941, Clyde entered the U.S. Army and served until May of 1945. During this time, he spent a continuous 3-1/2 years in New Guinea and Australia.

On July 31, 1945 he was united in marriage to Jeannete Skalberg. They lived for a brief time in the Washington, D.C. area, where Jeanette was stationed. In the fall of 1945, they moved to Minneapolis where they lived for a year, then returned to Dassel to make their home.

Clyde owned and operated Tomlinson Construction Co. of Dassel. He was a member of the Dassel Church of Christ, where he served on the church board and as chairman, as well as serving as an elder for over 30 years, a Sunday school teacher, and a trustee.

He was also a board member of the Dassel Cemetery Association; a 20-year member of the Dassel Volunteer Fire Department; and a former Dassel public school board member. He served on the board of the Dassel Lakeside Community Home, the Dassel Development Corp., and the Dassel Community Chest. He was a member of Paul F. Dille American Legion Post of Dassel, the Dassel Rod and Gun Club, and the Dassel Commercial Club.

Survivors include his wife Jeanette; daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen and Charles Dye of Warren, Ind. and Gayle and Larry Medcalfe of Wyoming, Minn.; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Anita Tomlinson of Circle Pines; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a sister, AnnaMae Oliver of Brooklyn Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arlie and Russell; and sisters, Edith and Florence.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998 at 2 p.m. at Evangelical Covenant Church, Dassel, with the Revs. Michael Gerhardt and Timothy Tomlinson officiating.

A flute solo was performed by Karyn Tomlinson, with additional music was by Larry and Chad Medcalfe with Eileen Dye, accompanist. Janet Latt served as the organist for the service.

Casket bearers were Chad Medcalfe, Jeremy Dye, James Tomlinson, Luke Medcalfe, Jeffrey Dye, and Scott Skalberg. Interment was in the Dassel Cemetery with a military honor guard from Paul F. Dille American Legion, Dassel.
