Elvera Uecker obituary 2/10/98


Elvera Uecker, age 84 of Howard Lake, died on Tuesday,
Feb. 10, 1998 at Fairview Southdale Hospital, Richfield, Minn.
Elvera was born on June 13, 1913, at Dassel, Minn., the
daughter of Emil and Charlotte (Viitika) Tormanen. She was baptized and
confirmed at the Apostolic Lutheran Church, Cokato, Minn.
On June 20, 1934 she was united in marriage to Milton P.
L. Johnson. This union was blessed with the birth of two daughters.
Elvera worked at the Short-Stop Drive In, the Coffee Cup
Cafe, Richwell Furniture Factory, Northland Canning Company, operated her
own re-upholstery business, and took an active part in the family farm.
She enjoyed gardening, vacationing in the Black Hills, and sewing. On June
17, 1978 her husband, Milton, was called to his eternal rest.
On Aug. 27, 1988 she was united in marriage to Eldon Uecker
at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, by the Rev. Art Bode. They made
their home in Howard Lake and she enjoyed her extended family. She was a
member of the St. James Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML).
Elvira was preceded in death by her parents; first husband,
Milton; five brothers: John, William, Emil, Francis, and Leonard Tormanen;
six sisters: Frieda Wuollet, Hulda Hendrickson, Jenny Johnson, Alina Koski,
Sylvia Gilmer, and Annie Tormanen.
She is survived by her husband, Eldon Uecker; two daughters,
Nancy Gilbertson and husband Dennis, Minnetonka; Frances Godwin and husband
John, Houston, Tex.; four grandchildren, Elise and John Gilbertson, Minnetonka,
Anne Bell and husband Kevin, Phoenix, Ariz., and Aaron Godwin, Daytona Beach,
Fla.
Elvera is further survived by one sister Selma Kotila,
Cokato; nine stepchildren: Jerry Uecker, Janice Graff, Allan Uecker, LuAnn
Moy, Bruce Uecker, Arvid Uecker, Barry Uecker, David Uecker, and Sue Leaf;
18 step-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 14 from St. James
Lutheran Church with the Reverends Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating.
The organist was Nancy Butterfass with special music by soloist Jane Mol
and the LWML choir.
Casketbearers were John Gilbertson, Jason Uecker, Jeremy
Uecker, Michael Uecker, Mark Graff, and Christopher Uecker. Interment was
in the North Crow River Lutheran Church Cemetery.
