She married the Rev. Winfred Ave-Lallemant on Sept. 22, 1941, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, Wis. They both returned to Cuba in the mission field, where her husband already was serving the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, until August 1942.
They returned to the states when Winfred received a call to Wayside, Wis. Throughout their married life, they moved their family to various states, with the last call to St. John's, Cedar Mills, Minn.
Besides being a pastor's wife and mother, Irene had other jobs outside the home, including working for 3M in Hutchinson where she retired in 1987. Winfred and Irene had seven sons and one daughter.
Prior to her husband's death on Dec. 25, 1980, the Ave-Lallemants owned and operated "The Corn Crib" restaurant in Cokato.
Irene continued to live in Dassel, and then Howard Lake until 1993. She then moved to Atlanta, Ga., to live with one of her sons due to health problems and, finally, cancer.
Irene was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She was active in the Ladie's Aid, church choirs, and evangelism. Her hobbies included collecting recipes, doing crossword puzzles, playing the piano and gardening.
