Hillard William Bandemer
Funeral services for Hillard William Bandemer, 74, of Glencoe were held on Monday, May 22, from the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, with the Rev. Harvey Kath officiating.
Mr. Bandemer died on Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at St. Mary's Care Center in Winsted.
The organist was Mary Huebert, and the congregation sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," "Amazing Grace," and "Beautiful Savior."
Pallbearers were Guy Griesmann, Kim Griesmann, Alan Johnson, Gary Graupmann, Scott Graupmann and Todd Mackenthun. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Bandemer was born in Glencoe on Dec. 20, 1925, to Arthur and Mathilda (Dammann) Bandemer. He was baptized on Jan. 3, 1926, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe by the Rev. E. Kolbe and confirmed at the same church on April 2, 1939, by the Rev. A. Streufert.
He spent nearly all his life on a farm near Glencoe attending country school and then the First Lutheran School.
On Feb. 20, 1960, Mr. Bandemer was united in marriage to Norma Graupmann at the St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Plato. They made their home on Mr. Bandemer's home farm.
As an active member at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, he served on the stewardship board, as a deacon, and as an usher.
As a U.S. Army veteran with active service dates from March 4, 1953 through March 3, 1955, he has served as Plato Legion Post commander.
As a youth he was active in 4-H raising champion steers, and he pitched softball. He enjoyed fishing, trapping, attending local sporting events, listening to oldtime music, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
In 1999, they sold the farm and moved into Glencoe.
Survivors include his wife, Norma of Glencoe; four daughters and two sons, Barbara Bandemer of Glencoe, Jayne Waldner and husband, Anton, of Rogers, Mary Lyle and husband, Jay, of Shakopee, Ronald Bandemer of Glencoe; Lori Lentz and husband, Jon, of St. Cloud, and Richard Bandemer and wife, Ann, of Sauk Rapids; sister, Elaine Griesmann and husband, Edward, of Glencoe; eight grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Earl and Darlene Graupmann of Babbitt, Orlin and Ella Graupmann of Plato, Ruth and Duane Miller of Glencoe, Elmer and Beverly Graupmann and Sharon and Gene Mackenthun, all of Plato; aunt and uncle, Elmer and Dora Quast of Glencoe; as well as many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel of Glencoe handled arrangements.
