Carolyn L. "Corkey" Bayerl
Carolyn L. "Corkey" Bayerl, age 61 of Winsted, died Monday, May 31, 1999, at the Glencoe Area Health Center.
Corkey was born in Grand Rapids, Minn. Sept. 8, 1937, the daughter of Alfred M. and Mildred Landroches Long. She graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1955.
On Sept. 12, 1959, Carolyn was joined in holy marriage to Robert J. "Bob" Bayerl at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with two sons.
Corkey was formerly employed by Mcleod County Social Services and Holy Trinity Schools. While serving as a teacher's aide at Holy Trinity, she helped establish the girls basketball program.
For the past 22 years, Corkey was associated with the Midland Insurance Group in Winsted.
Corkey was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted and sang in the church choir for many years. She was also a member of the St. Anne Society, Holy Trinity Court #1054 Catholic Order of Foresters, the Auxiliary of American Legion Post #407, and a long-time volunteer at St. Mary's Care Center. Corkey formerly sang in Winsted's Community Choir.
Survivors include her husband Robert J. "Bob" Bayerl; sons, Randy (Sue) Bayerl of St. Cloud and Daniel Bayerl of Hutchinson; grandsons, David and John Bayerl; a sister, Lorraine (Max) Ferree of Grand Rapids; a twin sister, Peggy (Rick) Ahcan of Grand Rapids; a brother, Alvan (Dolly) Long of Alameda, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Genevieve Fryer and Bernadine Weber; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Mildred Long; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ben and Martha Bayerl; and by brothers-in-law, Les Fryer and Ken Weber.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, June 3, 1999, 10:30 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. The Rev. Paul L. Wolf was the celebrant. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, on Wednesday, June 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. A St. Anne Society rosary was recited at 4:30 p.m., with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m.
Lavon Kielkucki was the organist and the Holy Trinity choir provided special music for the Mass.
Mike Guggemos, Rick Ahcan, Max Ferree, Gerald Quast, John Arnold, and Gordon Long served as casket bearers.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
