Myrtle Christenson Bechtle
Myrtle Christenson Bechtle, 98 of Montevideo, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.
Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, 10:30 a.m., at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Montevideo with the Revs. Douglas Olson and Lois D. Knutson officiating. Lois Baker was the organist and soloist was Allen Larson.
Casket bearers were Reed Molden, Rick Molden, Mike Erickson, Chuck Sahr, Gary Christenson, Scott Christenson, and Darrin Christenson. Honorary casket bearers were grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. Interment was at Brono Cemetery, rural Montevideo.
Visitation was Wednesday, Nov. 3, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Myrtle Irene Johnson was born Sept. 7, 1901, in Chippewa County, Minn., the daughter of P. Albert and Christine (Carlson) Johnson. She was baptized Oct. 14, 1901 and confirmed May 13, 1915.
Myrtle was united in marriage to Emil Christenson Dec. 24, 1923. Emil Died April 5, 1956.
On June 1, 1968, Myrtle was united in marriage to Jacob Bechtle. Jacob died in 1981.
Myrtle worked at Montevideo Laundry from1956 until retiring in 1968. She was a member at Brono and Our Saviors Lutheran Church, where she was active in Circle and taught Sunday school.
She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing cards, and Twins baseball.
Myrtle had lived at Parkview Towers for 27 years.
Survivors include three daughters: Erma Erickson of Montevideo, Lois (Chuck) Sahr of Fredrick, Wis.; and Vivian (Ronald) Molden of Milan, Minn; two sons, Clint Christenson of Minneapolis, and Vern (Marsha) Christenson of Winsted; two step-daughters, Myrtle Norton of Montevideo, and Lee Pitts of Hopkins; one step-daughter-in-law, Iris Bechtle of Montevideo; one step-son-in-law, Leonard (Vonnie) Ward of Montevideo; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding Myrtle in death were her parents; husbands, Emil Christenson and Jacob Bechtle; one brother, Raymond Johnson; five sisters, Anna Peterson, Frances Falkum, Ida Vane, Agnes Johnson, and Gladys Pratt; two step-daughters, Clarice Ward and Mona Bechtle; one step-son, Don Bechtle; one son-in-law, Shirly Erickson; one daughter-in-law, Marion Christenson; and one step-son-in-law, Joe Norton.
The Anderson Funeral Home, Montevideo, handled the arrangements.
